View Full Version : Error when Players try to connect

Last night when we were playing (all on latest 4.6), one of the players repeatedly got a message:
"Authorization failed: The host is running an unauthorized copy, or authorization server is down."

After a couple of attempts they were able to join in. The rest of the evening was fine.

I'm at home now trying to connect in to my instance with a second machine sitting right next to the main one and am also getting that same error (repeatedly) now too. This same machine I've used every other day to join in (when I'm doing testing etc) and it's worked fine for a month.

Something seems amiss obviously.

And I just shut down the player instance and restarted it and this time I was able to get in. /shrug/

This is a license conflict. The servers take a small amount of time to refresh the active license list. So if you disconnect 'uncleanly' and try to reconnect in too short of a time frame, the server will see it as two users trying to use the same license and give you this error. As you noticed, a restart and short wait of time will usually resolve.

As a matter of fact, it seems quite strange to be a problem, given that it used to run well. A couple of things you can try:
Once they have done this, turn off both machines and defensive boot the machines to check if there is a session or a cache that was interfered with.
This connection may be hindered by any alteration of the FW or antivirus settings which may hinder the connection.

ok thanks guys. Appreciate the insight. To my knowledge, this only started happening with 4.6, which is why I mentioned it. Restarting the instance is no big deal.

Have a great Thanksgiving.

I leave FG running for many days at a time because Im usually coding something.
If I dont close it completely before I try to run a game some license session has usually expired and the license check fails.
