I was excited to finally write on maps but I was expecting a simple right click rather than opening the map editor. Is there any chance of an update?
the ping mechanic is also very clunky - would it be possible to long press left mouse button to do a ping.

Also bonus request can we import our pdfs at any point?

Regarding the pings, I thought it was clunky at first until I learned that "Spacebar + Double-Left-Click" pings. I actually like this a lot better than the long-click as it's much harder to do accidentally.

There is always a chance of an update or enhancement. The devs have the Feature Request (https://www.fantasygrounds.com/featurerequests) list that they ask people to use

Import your PDFs... Depends on what you mean. But a wholesale automatic conversion doesn't exist. You can import NPCs, you can import text and images. But you have to format it.

I, too, was really excited about the text on maps update. It has been patched a few times since it went live, and every patch has made it worse: now every time you drop a new text item on a map, it creates a new layer.

Here's all I was hoping for from text:

Being able to place text on a map... even using the stamp tool like we are now is ok.
Being able to adjust it and have those adjustments stay: I want to label rooms on my map H1 through H17 like every module publisher in the business does, but if I want those numbers to be slightly transparent, or a certain size, I have to reset those adjustments EVERY SINGLE TIME... which is WAY more work than it's worth.
Being able to have text on a layer hidden from the players, AND have text on a different layer that the players can see... like every other asset in FG.

Please don't hear me complaining... I've been a FG user for almost 20 years, it's still the best VTT on the market (although the competition is heating up)... but these are the things I'd love to see.

Thanks!

If you want a new text layer to match the parameters of an existing text layer, you can use the duplicate layer button at the bottom of the layer list and then just change the text of the new layer. Also, text layers function the same as any other layer so you can make text layers GM only. Hope that helps.

I've been trying to do that for a week now and failing. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong... it's probably PBEBCAK, but I don't know how to fix it.

EDIT: The only thing I've been able to successfully do is make tokens for all of the letters (upper and lower case) and numbers, then add them to a GM layer with a blank black circle background to help them stand out. It looks like this:

Make sure to select the text tool and the initial text before clicking on duplicate layer. Make as many copies as you will need, move the text box over and edit it to whatever letters and numbers you want. The trick is to make your copies in one go, instead of one at a time. This way you are avoiding jumping in between tools and modes each time.
1.) Make initial text Box.
2.) Make all copies.
3.) Move copies into location or position.
4.) Edit the text as needed.
5.) If all locations are J or K do that part with the first number like K01, copy that and move it.
