In the 5E 2024 Sorcerous Burst cantrip part of the spell description says - "If you roll an 8 on a d8 for this spell, you can roll another d8, and add it to the damage. When you cast this spell, the maximum number of these d8s you can add to the spell's damage equals your spellcasting ability modifier."
The damage dice doesn't explode when rolling an 8. AFAIK, this is the only official 5E rule that uses exploding dice.
Edit it won't happen a lot at low levels but once you have enough levels to get multiple dice for you cantrips you should start getting a fair amount of explosions.
