View Full Version : Map Editing Error

Just did the most recent update. Was editing a map, adding walls and lights. When I locked the map it remained in the mode that I was last using. So if lights, still in light mode, if walls still can see walls. If I left from the settings menu it seemed to work.

That seems to have worked. Thanks.

A more nebulous problem and not one i'm sure of, but it seems harder to grab and move pins.

I've updated the shortcut pins to be easier to grab and move. It will be available in the next hotfix.

I'm not sure if it stems from the same issue, but LOS points seem significantly smaller and harder to interact with as well as the white squares that frame objects in images (for resizing and such).

Just pushed a hot fix that should improve the shortcut pin interaction. Carl is still looking at other items.

They seem a little easier to click on. I think the cursor used to change from the arrow to the hand when you were hovering over a pin (like for anything that is draggable). Now it stays an arrow, except I think it changes to the hand for a frame or two at the borders?

It works, but it doesn't seem right.

Map making is broken. Mapping points are super small. The cut wall function is not working when making doors. When you want to end a door or wall and hit Esc the whole thing you drew disappears, you actually have to hit enter to end a point or double click. If you grab a point to move it the point starts moving in a circle and the circles radius increases the further you drag it. Doors that you make do not have the function to open.

I did have some mods on when I made the map, I tried it on a new map with no mods loaded and the only thing that is repeatable from the list above is the grabbing a point and having it start moving in circles. I did turn off all my mods on the campaign I am working on and all the above issues are still there. I have the most up to date update as of 11/20/24 at 9am PST.The first picture is after I made a door with the "Cut wall" tool on 62659 The second is the door in play mode with no door open / closed icon 62660

I have 2 videos that I can not upload here due to size. One is showing the door issue and the other is the circular point if you move a point. If you would like these videos please let me know where I can send them to you.

I'm unable to reproduce any of the errors you are encountering.
Does this also happen in a new campaign? Can you provide a zipped copy of the campaign? If the campaign is too large to attach, you can share it via a Google Drive or Dropbox link. I can provide a Dropbox location if you send an email to [email protected] and reference this post. Thanks.

Here's my campaign from this morning: https://www.dropbox.com/s/b6s18i3dhm72q5v/Forgotten%20Realms%202020.zip?dl=0

I just started working on image: "Map - Feonor's Lair Need LOS"

I can't reproduce the doors not cutting walls, but I can confirm that as of right now, the mapping points (white squares at LOS points) are much smaller than they used to be.

When drawing a line of a wall, etc... if you press ESC, it does delete everything you've been drawing in that action. It used to keep all of them (desired). Enter does place a point at the cursor and ends the drawing action correctly still.

What UI Scale and monitor resolution are you running? The points are the same size to me as they have always been.

I have a bug already on the ESC button, so it is on my list.

Thanks again.

Maximized window at 3840x2160 on a: "GIGABYTE M32UC 32" 144Hz (160Hz OC) 4K UHD Curved Gaming Monitor, SS VA, 3840x2160 Display, 1ms Response Time (MPRT), 1x DisplayPort 1.4, 2x HDMI 2.1, 1x USB Type-C, 4x USB 3.2"

UI Scale is 165%

I wish I could reduce that but it gets increasingly more difficult to find a balance between being able to read the text and being able to fit more things on the screen...

And sincere thanks to you for working on this stuff!

Thanks again. The UI elements are too small for UI Scale above 100. I'll look into this and get a fix in the works.

The LOS points seem a little bigger... still smaller than they used to be I think... (At 4k / 165%)

ESC still deletes all lines drawn in the current LOS action.

Getting a Runtime error and crash to desktop when moving the new Text Images

Update: After running tonight's session a bit more after the crash, I had another image cause a runtime error. My regular battlemaps and overland map did not seem to cause any problems. The other image that cause the runtime error only had Paint layers and no Text. So it looks like the issue may actually be with the Paint layers.

@claedawg,

Can you provide more information on the specific steps you followed to get that to crash? I'd like to recreate here, so I can pass to Carl to fix.

The first image was just a white Paint background with text stamps showing different activities, I then added text stamps for each character so I could move them around under the activity they selected. Moving the text boxes was problematic (selecting the text box requires clicking in an exact point in the box and moving the text boxes was glitchy) and then when moving the last character name is when the runtime error occurred. That is the image I posted above. The game closed out after clicking on the Ok button.

The second instance was also an image with a plain white background Paint layer with a few number stamps to where "runes" can be placed for a puzzle. It also had stamps for the runes themselve (to be moved into the "box" where an individual number stamp was placed. That one opened once fine, but I had closed it and then reopened it a few moments later the runtime error immediately came up. Although, this time the runtime error pop up wouldn't even show completely with most of the pop up being greyed out and then the blue circle popped up and the whole FG screen got that shadowy white look it does sometimes (especially when going through Assets or when a player joins the campaign). It then just died and closed out FG and Steam.

This is a screenshot one of the players was able to get before the game crashed on their side.

Oh, not sure if this is related, two of my players also had issues when they first opened the session to where they were not able to move their character sheet after they opened it. They had log out and log back in to fix that issue.

There was an update to fix some image paint editing issues that was posted yesterday afternoon. Did this occur prior too, or after that update? Thanks.

There was an update to fix some image paint editing issues that was posted yesterday afternoon. Did this occur prior too, or after that update? Thanks.

I ran my last update for the game around 5pm central (after the first crash). There was another update when I checked back in after game was over around 11 pm my time. So maybe that one fixed it, I haven't checked yet.

UPDATE: Was another update that I just ran. Everything seems to be fine now (no runtime error) except that when attempting to move text images it still tends to choose the paint lair behind the text when clicking inside the wire box for the text frame (I first select the text image in the layers sidebar).

Thanks for the help on these items. The issue with moving layers behind text layers should be addressed in v4.6.2 of the client. Please run a new Check for Updates, and let us know if you are still having an issue.
