i have been looking around for a little bit but i cannot find a map editor anywhere. Maybe i havent been looking long enough, i figured the fastest way to get ahold of one would be to post here. Though i dont have a full account for fg2(i only have lite account) i do have a full account for fg1 and was wondering if map files could be the same format for either version of the game? i figured i could use my full version of fg1 to create/test maps and then give them to other people so i can play with them on my lite version. i just need to get my hands on a map editor.

Eh... you are aware that the full version key for FG1 actually is valid for FG2 as well since it is a free upgrade.

I suggest you take a peek on Map X or Autorealm.

Dunjinni (https://www.dunjinni.com) is excellent mapping software. I use it for most of my mapping. The maps crossover between FG1 and FG2. You wouldn't create the maps within FG, but you could test them.

As you said map editor rather than map maker I'll suggest IrfanView and Paint.Net. These are two free programs.

IrfanView is simple and has powerfult batch processing features and is great for doing anything but creating art. However it doesn't do transparencies. You can find out more here: https://www.irfanview.net/

Paint.NET is a full blown art program - it is powerful, has layers and can deal with transparency. You can find out more here: https://www.getpaint.net/index.html

MapX is pretty powerful, if a little finicky--but if you're looking for cheap, it's probably the most powerful program that's free out there.

GiMP is another powerful image editor that's free if that's what you're looking for.

Its not strictly a map editor but I've seen people do great things with Inkscape. Its a vector based drawing program so it can make very clean very scalable object.

say... there isnt a way to find out your key if you lost it is there? Im using my friends account because he moved to another college elsewhere and let me have his old labtop - i played with him a little and got interested and bought a lite account after he moved. I could have sworn that he had the key somewhere around here. ><

thanks for the link to inkscape - it looks promising.

Start -> Run -> Regedit

My Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Fantasy Grounds

Look around for

"License Key"

Or simpler yet? Install FG 2 on the same machine since it installs side by side with the first version and uses the same key.

Hmmm some of these are very nice looking. Im a bit short on money - if i wasnt i would give up the search for my friend's key and just buy another bloody full version and when i find the key to the one i have now i could just give it to somebody else. But really - is their a way i can find the key to the copy of the full install i have? im frustrated because i thought my friend had emailed it to me or something. Maybe he has it saved somewhere - ill find it when im able to get in touch with him ><.

Thanks again for all the map editor suggestons.

i couldnt find the liscense key using regedit but i will try the installing idea - i figured regedit would work but ... ill go for installing it. Thank you very much btw. i tried installing fg2 while fg1 was still on my system and before i could even try it asked for the lisense code. ><. hopefully i can reach my friend some time today or this week ^^. He better not have lost it :P.

my friend is unable to find his key so i suppose i will wait till payday to buy a full version or something. Why sell a light version if it is not completely compatible with the full versions. Ive been told by a couple of people that i cannot access their games with a lite version... guess im the fool for buying a lite version ><
thans for all of the map software suggestions though - ive been dabbling with a few of them.

Thats not true at all. Lite version access full versions just fine as long as everyone is on the same patch level.

You can't connect to the retail version (Lite or Full) with a demo version.
