With today's release of the PFRPG2 ruleset, phase 1 of implementing automation for the dying process has been implemented. There's more to come in future releases, with this release covering the manual rolling of a PC recovery check.

More details in this video: https://youtu.be/Mh3CsrA4bOk

Note: this is also available in the SFRPG2 playtest ruleset.

Cool stuff! It's sure to come up in our next session tomorrow, my character goes down easily :hurt:

Just of note: there are two feats (that I know of) that reduce the recovery check DC:
Toughness (https://2e.aonprd.com/Feats.aspx?ID=5227) and Mountain's Stoutness (https://2e.aonprd.com/Feats.aspx?ID=4398)

Thanks! I'm going to implement effects in the next phase and plan to handle these via character effects.

I may even move diehard to character effects and remove the "Die at Dying" field. Effects work better with stacking and can more accurately be removed if the feat/feature is removed from the character.

Makes sense! One of my co-players also immediately pointed out a third feat with a similar functionality: Defy Death (https://2e.aonprd.com/Feats.aspx?ID=4522) (Orc Feat). There might be more. :)

Watched the video, looks very cool! Of course, my wizard would never allow himself to be put in a position where he takes damage, but when I GM, I am sure I will make use of this ;)

This is fantastic, I'm building out my first PF2E game and wrapping my head around all the changes as I move from 1E to the new system

Everytime you all add more of these quality of life changes it makes me more excited to get this game together and throw my group into the meat grinder!

Thanks for all your hard work !

Great work, Trenloe! I remember when this started to work, it made us at the table very happy!
Do we have a way of adjusting the flat check DC? I have a couple players who have Toughness and Mountain's Stoutness, so their DC is considerably lower (and they don't go down so often, so we wanted some automation to stop forgetting it). Thanks for your support!

Not currently I'm afraid. It is something we plan to implement but there's not an ETA at this point.

dovetailing to this with a question:

i (i.e. my players' pcs) have not been successful using the recovery check die icon / function on the main tab.

is there a stated condition on combat tracker or somewhere else that has to be met for the function to work, to recognize "dying" or something?

or perhaps i have an extension that prevents it from working?

You need to enter the initial dying value in the "Dying" field in the PC sheet.

I created an extension that let you adjust the flat check - one of my players almost died last session because we forgot Mountain Stoutness + Toughness. I don't know how to post to Forge yet, but when I discover I'll put it there. If you want, I can send it here too.
Feel free to delete this (or I'll delete) if this isn't allowed here, but it was the first time that I programmed anything since I dropped college some 10 years ago, I felt so proud of myself. :D 67228
