View Full Version : Question about Barbarians of Lemuria

Alignment Unknown
September 3rd, 2024, 16:20
I've tried asking on the discord, but does anyone know why the FGU store sells Barbarians of Lemuria adventures, but doesn't seem to carry the ruleset? The three adventure modules say you need the ruleset, but I can't find it on there. Any help appreciated.

EDIT: A moderator on the discord channel said they think it's been updated and has temporarily been pulled.

[MODERATOR: Moved to the BoL sub-forum]

On the other hand, it might be seen as unethical to remove products that people who already own the BoL ruleset may have planned to purchase in future? SmiteWorks have a no questions asked 30 day refund policy, so if purchases are made by mistake (or, as in this case, can't be used right now), you're not out of pocket.

Hopefully it's just a temporary removal and will be back soon. Maybe @bayne7400 may know more...

This is absolutely news to me. They recently asked if I wanted to make a new version but said nothing about the one on the store. I am going to email Doug and James.

Barbarians of Lemuria has been sold to a new publisher and they have a new version coming out soon. They were looking for someone to develop the new version, but they asked us to remove the existing ruleset from sale.

Barbarians of Lemuria has multiple editions already.

Original
Legendary
Mythic (which is I think the edition that was on the store)
Everywhen

They are all editions in their own right. Pulling an existing working edition isn't going to make it easier for them to find developers to work on their new edition.

Yup. I spent a lot of time on that and Honor and Intrigue which is built on top of that. I am hoping we can figure something out so at least we can keep supporting Honor and Intrigue.

I have contacted the new owner and provided my suggestions on leaving the older edition available for sale even if a new edition is being released in the future.

I personally thank you for the work you've done. While I am no programer myself, I have enjoyed the hours my gaming group plays.
Even if the advantages for wizards could be worked out better (Power of the Void for example) -
In serious, however, it is great work and I hope we can get a new edition for sale. Let me know if you need help converting anything.

So is the ruleset not available is the reason I am getting an error message (Script execution error: [string "CoreRPG:scripts/manager_export.lua"]:594: table index is nil) when I try to export a campaign?

No I think that is a bug in the new build. Try again next week as new updates are pushed.

Thank you!! I certainly hope it is a fixable bug. I want to add the new adventures from the new book as well as convert some other sources I have found. I was able to export again yesterday when I tried it.

Yes, that issue with exporting was pushed yesterday evening. Thanks for following up.

It seems like the ruleset might have been pulled for an update, like the mod mentioned. I’ve seen similar things happen when content gets revised or temporarily taken down for tweaks. It’s probably just a waiting game, but I’d recommend keeping an eye on the store or any updates from FGU to see when it’s back.

@bayne7400? Just wondering if this the publisher or you're working on it?

So just looked and my copy of the core ruleset that I had already bought is no longer an option under modules for the ruleset?

Not in menu:
63185

Purchase History:
63186

It doesnt show up under Modules but it does when you start a new campaign in the game systems (rulesets) area.

Correct, you can build a campaign but the corebook is missing. I see it in yours. Just start a new campaign you think?

If still an issue, try going to FG data folder, then vault subfolder, deleting FFFGBOLBOL.dat, and running a new Check for Updates.

So the file is missing in the first place... Not sure how it was deleted as it was there maybe just before the holidays around the time I was thinking about rebooting a BoL campaign. And an update doesn't bring it back...

[EDIT: Disregard, I was looking in the wrong folder for the dat file. I found it and deleted it and, YES!, it worked! Thank you, Moon]

I was able to recently buy the rule-set. I did have to do a google search for its location on the store. Looks fun and interesting, thanks to all who have worked on this, look forward to enjoying BoL.

Yeah that is weird. Let me know if you see any issues. We just had quite a big update. It is an older ruleset that has a lot of its own code and way of doing things.

It is definitely showing up on the store now. I did a search for Barbarians and I also filtered for the system.

Hi bayne thanks for all your hard work, is the battle harness boon working properly, should there be an item named battle harness? And Power of the Void adding Arcane Points?

bayne7400

Most of the things have to be handled manually. This is an old ruleset without an effects system. When i get a chance ill look at these specifically.

I got time this morning to take a look. So that was going to be my suggestion make a custom item. I noticed an issue with arcane points. Not sure what update that was broken in but I am going to look at it tonight. I will look at power of the void too since I need to go into the arcane points code. There are a few ways I can address this one more work than the other.

Thanks bayne! Oh I noticed "Might Shot" doesn't add full str damage to bow hit. Been working on a party of characters, crazy I was able to have the AI look at a photo of the character sheet and makeup a background story. Posted on ODD74 website https://odd74.proboards.com/post/279247

Most boons are not automated. Sonit needs to be done manually

I need to run some conan using this ruleset. It has been awhile since ive used it. It is a great system.

Yes I couldn't help but be intrigued by the system it was because of seeing the ruleset. I like the character development, I had to make a party to learn the BoL Mythic rules and Fantasy Grounds. Haven't gotten to the point of running a combat scenario yet.

Got a favor to ask, Bayne. When you get a chance, can you add a Lock function to the PC character sheet? That'd be nice to preserve data during gameplay in the case of fumble-fingered players (and this GM in particular). No urgency, it'd just be nice...

bayne7400
September 26th, 2025, 15:24
I have no plans to add that. Maybe if it becomes standard across all rulesets.

Only the ones that haven't implemented it from CoreRPG ;)

Agreed. On top of adding in the lock/unlock button, each field in every tab of the character sheet would need to be included in the lock/unlock functionality. For example, here's the 5E Main PC sheet code, where each control must be named in one of the fields lists, and this is a simple example compared to some PC sheet tabs, which can get pretty complex for PC sheets that have multiple tiers of data:

function onLockModeChanged(bReadOnly)
local tFieldsTop = { "background", "race", };
local tFieldsAbility = { "strength", "dexterity", "constitution", "intelligence", "wisdom", "charisma", };
local tFieldsSave = { "strengthsave", "dexteritysave", "constitutionsave", "intelligencesave", "wisdomsave", "charismasave", };
local tFieldsSaveProf = { "strengthsaveprof", "dexteritysaveprof", "constitutionsaveprof", "intelligencesaveprof", "wisdomsaveprof", "charismasaveprof", };
local tFieldsHealth = { "hp", };
--local tFieldsHealth = { "wounds", "temphp", "deathsavesuccess", "deathsavefail", };

WindowManager.callSafeControlsSetLockMode(self, tFieldsTop, bReadOnly);
WindowManager.callSafeControlsSetLockMode(self, tFieldsAbility, bReadOnly);
WindowManager.callSafeControlsSetLockMode(self, tFieldsSave, bReadOnly);
WindowManager.callSafeControlsSetLockMode(self, tFieldsSaveProf, bReadOnly);
WindowManager.callSafeControlsSetLockMode(self, tFieldsHealth, bReadOnly);
end

If you decide to implement character sheet locking, you can also look at the Savage Worlds ruleset for another example of implementation.
It's not too bad to implement.
You may have just as many player that don't want locking implemented.
