Hi there!

If I want to purchase FGs2 and run it from two computers in my home (one for me and one for my wife), do I need two licences? Will it work when working with a wireless router (i.e., can we both play at the same time using the same IP)?

If you're playing in the same games you will need two licenses. Having both computers behind a router shouldn't cause any problems as long as no more than one of them is used as the server. In other words, only one of you will be able to GM at a time but either or both can play.

It isn't just a good idea... it is the law. Basically each license gives you the right to run it on one computer.

Don't worry, I have no intention of breaking the law.

Logistically this is fine, I have the same setup (I host a game which another PC witihin the LAN accesses, together with external clients).

The client on the LAN cannot connect via a passphrase, however, and needs to use the local (LAN) IP address of the host. Other than that, it works a treat!

Ah, so do you just type in the IP address of the host in place of the passphrase, or is there some "workaround" you must know? In other words, does the software make it easy in this situation?

When the host starts it shows the local IP address. Anyone on the same LAN can *for sure* connect to the host using the local IP address. Depending on how "smart" your router is they also may be also be able to connect to the host using the server alias or even the router's external IP address.

I must have a dumb router then *grin*, I can only use the internal LAN IP address or (I think) the WINS name of the host.

In any event, as Griogre says, the internal IP address appears on the host start-up screen, when it asks you if you want to use an IP address or a pass phrase/alias. Even if you select the pass phrase method, the IP address will work for internal clients.

Might be a bit behind the times in posting this, but what I do is set up with a dynamic dns service (no-ip in my case, since it was free) and have everyone connect to that address

I have three Lan players, one player in Philly, and one player in Kyoto. All connect to the same address *******.servebeer.com that I set up. Fairly simple, straightforward, and works flawlessly for us.
