View Full Version : Proof reading Modules Before sale!

First things first you all do a great job putting together the Modules that you offer. I am a big fan of the D&D 2ed. products. That being said it, is nobody reviewing or proofs the products? It all there but when add the text you change the format and should review it so that it looks and feels correct. I can't tell you how many of the 20+ books that have massive editorials errors and if I go through and correct them, then I have to do it again for each campaign. You guys could fix this by review and updating the products correctly. I know maybe it sounds petty, but I spend quite a bit here and would like to get a finished product. Example: The Wilderness Survival and Dungeons Survival guides. Just start reading one of them.

If you report the errors, they will be fixed. Then you won't have to fix it in your next campaign.

I thought that was what I was doing! Is there someplace else I should post to???

Usually DLC issues are reported in the sub-forum for the ruleset. I don't see a DLC thread in the D&D Classics sub or I would point you to that. I'll move this thread there so the right people have a better chance of seeing it.
What they will probably want is something like:
Wilderness Survival Guide
- Story "Introduction" paragraph 4 "blah blah blah"
- Story "The Valley" paragraph 1 "blah" paragraph 3 "blah blah"
The more specific you are, the more likely your fix will be adopted because they will know where it is. Saying, "just start reading" is going to mean they will do that, and they will probably miss a large portion of the errors (edit: but other than WSG, they won't know which books to re-read), like they did they first time. But, if that's all you want to do, that's good too and I'm sure the developer(s) will do what they can.

I see there is no response regarding the above issues. I could list the issues, but I don't think I could fit them on the forums page. I am pretty sure that is only for the Wilderness Survival Guide. But hey I will ask the Founder about the issue the next time I see him online.

I notified James about your initial post and he will have notified the developer. I don't know the developer or their status but I can only assume things are being looked into. However as LE says in his post above more details would be helpful and those can be passed on as necessary.

I will sit down with one of the books and put together list of places, but honestly it might be only a list of pages. As it effect the whole books which why I encourage people to just start reading one of them.

Maybe just a couple of specific examples then? Screenshots help too.

It is this way thought out the book.
I am also reviewing some of the other books, I am not finding the errors that I have remember (perhaps updated already?). I will continue to post what I find.

I've got to say that is shockingly bad and just not up to any kind of standard. I've drawn James' attention again to this post and to your screenshots so that the developer can be informed. Thanks for taking the time to report this.

Is the Wilderness Survival Guide taken from a pdf or text document, or a OCR scan? I bought that book when I was at college which was a long time ago....

Do you know if it is a text pdf or just scanned images?
That would make the adaptation to FG a lot more complex.

It is probably OCR. It happens on alot of these modules. I actually run the conversion DB.xml through a spell check when I did old conversions. It is what probably needs to happen here.

This kind of stuff is pretty common when working with PDFs of old content, especially when one of the horizonal and/or vertical columns are filled with some kind of quasi etched symbols/visuals. That stuff really throws off the OCR for some reason.

You should also take into account that the person who converted it only gets $3 per sale. My guess there were fewer than 50 sales. The book is scanned images so OCR....
So you balance time vs quality vs having to do it yourself.

This is what I do. It would capture 80-90% of this. You'll still get some that fall through but you have to spell check any of these PDFs imported.
The best way to get a response on something like this is to email support and they will contact the author of the product conversion.
I don't think I know this person personally or I'd ping them.

I am looking at what was submitted and will push the fixes, I am guessing something in my repository wasn't pulled down before I submitted this one!, my bad!

Great Thanks for the response and quick actions. I do really appreciate all the hard work put into the projects and in putting out the AAD&D books for use in the games. You guys are Tops in this service, from adding great materials and support from the littlest things to very complex issues!!!

All good mate, we were all in that situation at a point or another. I had to fix some splash books more than once due to bad OCR (barbarian comes to my mind). It tend to happen less often with adventures... maybe i am reading them a bit more carefully to have a better understanding of the module when i recreate maps etc...
Thank you again for taking the time to convert classic DnD products. You must know by now nobody does it for the money...(i think it took me about 40+ hours to convert a player's handbook, I can take me as long for a 32 page module when including the time i spend on maps using a 3rd party software).

In the Complete Barbarian's Handbook, table 24: Ravager Armor Class is missing. The link to the table in the Ravager kit leads to "New Story."

Yes, it is in-line with the text in the Reference Manual, but the actual Kit omits the table and has a link which leads nowhere. Drag the kit to a PC and you'll only have the empty link.
