View Full Version : Paypal Account Creation Required for Payment???

I just tried to pre-order the D&D 2024 Core Rulebooks and when I attempted to pay it brought me to the usual Paypal payment screen but with one crucial difference: it was requiring me to create a Paypal account in order to make a payment, which has never happened to me before when purchasing Fantasy Grounds materials.
This is an absolute 100% deal breaker for me. If creating a Paypal account is required to make purchase then I'm afraid my Fantasy Grounds days have come to an end after many, many years and many, many dollars spent. Paypal is NOT a bank. You have no protections when dealing with Paypal. I honestly dislike even allowing them to process my payments, but that part I'm willing to grudgingly tolerate.

Unless things have changed you can still use a Credit Card via PayPal as a Guest. There's also more payment options via Steam if you don't want to use PayPal.

I would say things have changed. I'm no stranger to making purchases on this website. Not only do I hold ultimate licenses for both FGC and FGU, I own hundreds of dollars worth of product licenses. Today is the first time I have been unable to check out via PayPal as a guest.

You could maybe ask PayPal. Or maybe try using a different browser or incognito mode. Maybe something has stuck somewhere or other. I'm not sure. I haven't seen this reported elsewhere but maybe most people have an account or use Steam so haven't encountered the problem. It still seems to be something that you can do https://www.paypal.com/us/cshelp/article/how-do-i-accept-cards-with-checkout-using-the-guest-checkout-option--help307

I haven't tried, but I'm wondering if this may be because the D&D 2024 books are pre-payments? Maybe do a test purchasing something that isn't a pre-order (but don't actually buy it) and see if the guest option is available.

I've tried multiple combinations of browser, pre-order items, non-preorder items. I'm never presented with the option of paying as a guest. It only allows to me to create an account and pay now:

It starts out as Check out as Guest, and reroutes me to this screen:

I tried multiple times to put a screenshot on a message and clicking the Save button won't work when a screenshot is attached.

I would suggest you try a new web browser with no extensions/add-ons. That you are having PayPal and website issues tells me something is changing the default behavior of your browser. For attaching images, you can also try the Go Advanced button when replying or editing to see if that allows you to attach an image.

So just an update. Smiteworks customer service is working with me on this. There is absolutely a problem related to a new implementation of the interface with PayPal. So this is nothing I'm doing wrong on my end. I have provided extensive screenshot and logs of my activities. The issue is being escalated.

Good news then ;)
