Hello All!!!

I am hoping to run a traveller campaign on VTT for the first time.

I own the updated traveller core book IRL but not on pdf gonna pick up another copy for ease of reference for in person character creation and such and get a pdf copy.

When i buy a module on Fantasy Grounds for mongoose traveller second edition what am i buying exactly? In game reference and functionality? Coded abilities and item access? This is my first VTT but im a veteran GM/Referee

Im assuming i should purchase all the books i want on Mongooses website, sync the account, then potentially buy the modules here (hopefully with a discount).

BONUS QUESTION!
Does Fantasy Grounds support Basic Roleplaying? Its the universal game engine Chaosium uses for call of cthulu etc. I was going to run a custom campaign in basic.

Welcome to the FG forums!

Yes to all of that. You'll get the underlying code/graphics that allow you to run MGT in Fantasy Grounds - in FG term's this is the "ruleset". Plus, with the ruleset you'll get the text of the core rulebook (in FG "reference manual" form) which is pretty much a recreation of the PDF in FG, and all of the data records from that product to use within FG - "stuff" needed for making a character, items, NPCs, ships, etc., etc.. The base ruleset and core rules is available here: https://www.fantasygrounds.com/store/product.php?id=MGP40000TRVMG2E

Each additional DLC "book" will contain the contents of the book, FG records (items, NPCs, etc.) and images/maps for sharing with players.

Mongoose doesn't have a discount scheme with Fantasy Grounds, that's currently only Paizo for Pathfinder and Starfinder products.

See here for the BRP ruleset: https://www.fantasygrounds.com/store/product.php?id=CHA2020aFG2

If you want to play Call of Cthulhu, then the 7e ruleset and a lot of DLC is available: https://www.fantasygrounds.com/store/?sys=19&pub=-1&typ=-1&search=&sort=1

We've heard that they would like to do it; but haven't heard any news from their developer (@MadBeardMan) if/when that will happen.

Player Agency - https://forge.fantasygrounds.com/shop/items/511/view

MNM Player Journal - https://forge.fantasygrounds.com/shop/items/628/view
(Also needs MNM Core)

I tend to use Stories because 99% of what I want in FG are links to our site that I share with the players, or text to use in chat (we are entirely text based). Because we have an extensive wiki most of the world building information goes there.
