View Full Version : Hidden player rolls

I don't mean to necro a post but we had an issue in our last game that all player rolls were hidden from the players. Using the 1st edition Pathfinder setting, the only extention is the official Pathfinder theme.

Players could pick up dice and drop them in the chat box for rolls, but any rolls off the character sheet were hidden

The issue you reported does not appear to be the same as the original post from the thread you posted in and the thread is older than a year, so you should start a new thread in those scenarios. I went ahead and moved to a new thread.

There is nothing that I'm aware of in the rulesets that would hide PC rolls added from the PC sheet. Can you post a zipped up copy of your campaign folder?

Sure... how does that work, lol? Dragging and dropping isn't it. I don't see an attachment button

In the Go Advanced section when posting, there is a button to Manage Attachments, where you can upload files.
Additionally, you can just post a OneDrive/GoogleDrive/DropBox link. Just make sure anyone with link can download option is set.

I just loaded up that campaign, fired up a player copy, took control of Holg with the player copy, and made several rolls (check/save/skill/attack/damage). They all look like they are coming through on my machine.

Here's the screen clip I made (GM on the left, player on the right).

Do you have a screen shot of the rolls not working?

Your screenshot shows the DM view which shows all of the information of the attack.

The crossed out eye icon indicates that you have the option show DM rolls set to off - meaning that the players will get limited information about the rolls that you make. If you also have the option Show results to clients set to off then the players will get limited information on their own rolls; including whether they hit or miss. So I suspect that you have that option set to off which means your players can't see if they hit or missed (that is the result of the roll). See the two screenshots below; the first roll was made with show results off and the second with show results on. Whilst the DM always gets all the information the players message in chat is different depending on the setting.

Ok, can you test in a new campaign without any extensions? Since the options in your screenshots as you have set them wouldn't remove any information from players I'm guessing that an extension is interfering with the process.

@orien45 - as Moon Wizard couldn't recreate the issue with your campaign, there could be a mismatch in versions you're using.

Please recreate the issue and compile your logs and upload the resulting ZIP file here. See Method #3 here for details on how to compile the logs: https://fantasygroundsunity.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/FGCP/pages/1242136781/How+to+Compile+Logs

@orien45 - you could also try cycling the "Chat: Show results to players" to "Off" and then restart FG. Then change it to "On" and restart FG. This will hopefully ensure the option is set correctly in the FG files. Make sure you restart twice - once after setting to "Off" and then once after setting to "On".

I just noticed a 'PC' option on the "Chat: Show Results" toggle (The choices are 'On' 'PC' and 'Off') . Could that have an effect?

"On" should work for all rolls, "PC" only shows the results for the PC rolls - so it ends up showing less. Please try what I mentioned in post #12 above.

I did the recycle. Now I just need a player to show up to test

You can join your own game as a player - start another instance of FG on the same computer as the GM instance, and Join Campaign as normal from the second instance

I think that may have worked! I can't see the map for some reason but I was able to drop dice on a target and see the results. Thank you

EDIT: The GM chat still shows the hidden icons... 60874

Great! Hopefully it'll remain working when your players connect.

Lol, there was an edit, the GM side still showed it as not showing

I think we need to try what Zacchaeus mentioned - do a test in a brand new campaign with no extensions loaded.

Re-share the map.

If the player can open the map, but it's all black - then disable lighting and/or LoS on the map.

Ah, I see the issue with this specific example - the creature is not visible to the players. Click the eye icon for the creature on the combat tracker.

Does FG have a Discord channel I could just share my screen on and chat, lol? Feel free to hop on the game, as well

Refer to the "Discord Server" link under the Support menu at the top of the forums web page.

I think your issue is being caused by the player not having full visibility of the creature they're attacking. So you need to make sure that the token isn't set to invisible in the combat tracker and that, if using lighting/LoS, the attacking PC has full view of the token.

Ok, got it. It was the Lighting layer. Thank you. Do I have to mark NPCs as Visable even when players walk into LoS of them?

The invisible setting on the CT overrides LoS/lighting. If you want to use LoS/lighting to control visibility then set the creatures in the CT to visible.
