Hello, thanks for making this ruleset in Fantasy Grounds, guys.

I was creating a wizard character and using the "Book" and "Story" part of the player module to add my spells. When I went to click on a spell's red dot/link, nothing came up. Is this intentional?

Can I, or any player, only access the spells via the spells direct link in the Shadowdark RPG Player module?

Also, when I went to look at Dwarf Ancestry in the Book, there was no description for the talent Dwarf Stout when that link is clicked on. This was true for other items in the Book and Story entries, like Thievery.

Does this mean that the Book and Story are just for reading and do not provide links to abilities/inventory items/etc.?

I have a little request regarding some of the master table entries. Can you add |hide after| entries to the columns please, it makes using the output in Story Templates a lot easier to work with. Here's an example of a template, I've duplicated the Adventure Generator Master and added the hide options. Then put together a simple template to show an example of the differences in simplicity on the call using the edited version:

Any that you’re using to generate names from nested tables, like “Magic Item Idea Generator Master”. I’m only just getting started with the ruleset and am a huge fan of using Story Templates. They can get quite complex though to put together, as you probably saw from my previous example.

Hi there,

Minor typo on Cursed Scroll 1: Under the Witch class, the Witch Spells Known chart is incorrect and does not list columns for witch spell tiers 4 and 5.

Cursed Scroll 2: On the GM map, all of the content pins seem to have shuffled. Like, the pin on the map over Alkesh opened the story entry for the Howling Caves, etc.

Module: Lost Citadel of the Scarlet Minatour


Encounters do not have tokens assigned to the NPCs. When loading the Encounter to the CT, Fantasy Grounds uses the alphabet tokens instead of the NPC records. Reading the NPC resolved when troubleshooting.

Small thing. The Book title is incomplete. It is "t Citadel" when opened.

Meanwhile, I am continuing to develop third party content for Shadowdark at a rate of about one product every six weeks.

In Shadowdark DM Tables Treasure 7-9:

The row that has range 6-7 includes the data for range 08-09 in the details instead of as a separate row.

Thanks all for the Shadowdark content in FGU - I bought the Core and zines 1-3.

My question is how do I create a campaign with just the ruleset and npcs/items/spells/etc, but without the story content that comes with the core and zines.

Should I export a module with just the material I want, and then create a campaign using the ruleset and then just load the module?

I don't know how all the data is organized, hopefully my question is clear, any advice appreciated.

What you suggest is exactly what you need to do. Create a campaign, open up all of the books, drag over everything you want (NPCs, items, classes, ancestries, etc.), one by one. into the the various selection windows on the right hand side. In the modules activation window, look or export. Create a cool thumbnail token. Export the campaign as a module. Start a new campaign and open up your module only.

Ah darn. The author uses a variety of names for this NPC, which was cuasing issues. I tried hard to fix it, but it seems that I something wrong. I will get it sorted out.

The Brain Eater NPC in the GM guide has some typos for the Mind Control and Mind Blast actions. The range should be Near for the actions as per the power descriptions. Also (OR) should be added to the Mind Control Action.

The distance is only in the detailed description and not in the attack summary, so the distance automatically was set to the default of Close. Please report similar cases as you find them and I will edit the attack summary so that the default value is not used.

As for the (OR) in the wrong location, it looks like FG sorts the attacks into numerical order. I will see if I can come up with the code to make this pretty.

EDIT: Fixed. I will gradually update the modules starting with CORE.

An error and a question:

1. The Scarlet Minotaur is missing his token for his NPC sheet. I've added my compiled log to show the error message when I tried to load the encounter.
2. Are the Encounters supposed to be placed on the map? Because it appears none of them are.

Is there a possibility of adding the Darkvision 60 effect to the appropriate dark adapted NPCs? It would save time of having to add Token Vision to each NPC after they are placed on the map.

I did some testing, and it appears to work as expected.

Instead of VISION: 60 darkvision you could use VISION: 60 truesight if you wanted the GM to be able to see the colors on a map that has color, when manipulating the NPC. The rules just say Dark Adapted but doesn't define what that means exactly. I've tested both and they work as expected. darkvision is black and white, truevision has color. The number could be whatever. 120, 240, 360, 8675309. 360 is 72 squares at 5 feet per square.

Keep it mind, truesight can see through the darkness effect while darkvision cannot. However I don't see a spell in the Shadowdark core or the three Cursed Zines that uses the darkness effect.

For the Skeleton NPC in the GM's Guide on the Main tab of the NPC sheet, the word small denoting it's size needs the s to be capitalized.

No, the tokens are not automatically placed in pre-defined locations. In 4E D&D, the adventures indicated that starting position of NPCs. Shadowdark adventures do not do that.

Thanks for the continued work and open mind for suggestions! I think I can speak for everyone when I say your effort is greatly appreciated by us fans!

I'm slowly adding the free Monthly Monsters available from the Arcane Library Discord and testing them to see if I got the syntax right. I usually try to find a similar creature type to compare so as to make my additions fit the same style and theme of the ones in the ruleset. I love the way you formatted the Notes tab for the NPCs.

The Vampire NPC sheet has a typo. On the main page under the Actions section the Charm power has (Close) for the range, that should be (Near) as per the power's description.

In my opinion, the Gelatinous Cube should be changed to apply Acid Damage instead of Necrotic Damage.
Two reasons:
1. They are generally described as using acid damage through most iterations of them in TTRPGs.
2. There is a free Monthly Monster PDF from Kelsey Dionne the creator of Shadowdark that features a Necrotic Gelatinous Cube that has 1d4 skeletons in it that can leave the cube and attack. Since it has Necrotic in the name, it implies it is doing necrotic damage rather than acid damage.

Yes, of course. Thank you for catching that bug. The name "touch" for an attack overlaps with the draining touch of an undead creature such as a shadow. I will rename the attack to "slime touch" to get around this problem.

Yeah, it is. The scripts do everything from building records through to fixing capitalization of names. It is my own opinion, but if you like putting together large puzzles, building models, and logic games like sudoku puzzles rubik's cube, then your are suited to this.

Ran through Citadel of the Scarlet Minotaur with my 5e group who are all from the days of 1e and b/x. We ran into some issues like the weapons found in the dungeon can not be equipt. I ended up recreating the weapons. Swords should have 2 handed option and do 1d10, they dont.

I looked over the treasure. I found a few things. Asterion is missing!! :p It is the best item in the dungeon. I never noticed because no one ever made far enough to pick it up.

Anyways, I fixed the swords and a few other things as well. Thanks for reporting! I will push a fix.

The way they did it as one, I have to roll it twice and use the first and second words respectively per roll... workable, but a bit annoying considering how clean FGU is normally with such tables.

I truly apologize, and am grateful for the work you are doing here.

It is a problem with the tables for the gm mod. The tables as they are consists of data from two tables combined into one. The nouns need to be one table and the adjectives need to be in another tables. Thrse tables then should be nested.

You are appreciated.

What you reported is definitely a bug! I accidently put the effect codes on the third line of text instead of the second line for that spell, and then my parser took my effects codes as the spell text. My mistake!

Example: Dungeon & Dragons looks much better to me as a name/title than Dungeon and Dragons

Fantasy Grounds crashes if there an & in the data, so I had to take them all out. :(

EDIT: I figured out how to keep the & inside FG without a crash. I will update my methods, and replace "and" with "&" in headings.

I posted a message on the forum with the changes I could find comparing v1 with v4.8. At first, I thought it was just a problem with the "Overland Hex Maps" tables, but after digging, I realized it was a version issue.

Here are the changes I could find, referring to the pages in the book:

Now you have lost me. I do not know what you are talking about. Ctrl 2? What is that? Sorry. Perhaps a screenshot might help.

When you are making a Story entry, instead of doing the normal body text, you can use CTRL 2 to change to Title line (Big Bold Letters). Special characters are not available for that font setting.

It's a minor thing, I just prefer using an ampersand in the header/title lines.

I was able to reproduce that in FG. Here is what I learned:

Ctrl 1 through 6 or so cylce through the options of the paragraph style menu, such as heading, chat frame, bullet list, etc. Ctrl-2 is a heading.
There is no visible difference between applying a style via a shortcut key and via the style menu.
The blurry mark at the right edge is the rendering of "&" in a Heading style.
Flipping between normal formatting and heading formatting causes the & to alternate between a & character and that special charater.
This happens regardless of whether you do so via ctrl-2 or the style menu.

It is much easier to use the shortcut keys that it is to use the mouse menu for that stuff. Making Story tables that way (CTRL 6) with some CTRL TAB for new columns is also much easier than trying to
mouse it.

Not that I have noticed. But that symbol shows up whenever you use any special characters.

I did have the same idea that if there were a flipped version it would be cool to put on either side of the header to make it more distinguished from a regular header.

Hi the Shadowdark books in FG are really great, thank you! I was just trying to find the Mount tables, page 29 on the Cursed Scrolls 2 Zine but didn't find it. Is this content missing in the module?

Thanks for catching that! I jsut finished an update of the CS products and this bug fix just missed that. I will add it to the fixes for the next time I update Cursed Scroll 2.

I've found changes in the "Shadowdark RPG Errata Changelog" that haven't been applied to the module, so perhaps there are changes you made that weren't uploaded correctly. I'll cite some errors that haven't been fixed. I'll put the changelog in quotes and include screenshots of the module and the v4.8 book.

Hi, I reported the change for version 4.8 almost a month ago, but it still hasn’t been corrected in the Shadowdark module for FG.

There’s another correction that needs to be made for the "Hex terrain" table. I’m attaching a screenshot showing how it appears in the module versus the manual:

I am looking forward to the new Shadowdark content from Arcane Library - the new cursed scroll zines and west marches setting.
Question on modules - will it be possible to buy a single module with all the Arcane Library content ? Currently I have GM + Player for the rules and the CSZs that have been released, and it makes for alot of modules to load. AL releases everything in little chunks and here comes a whole new set. If possible, it would be great to have a fewer number of modules so player options, monsters, etc. are more in one place.

Thanks for all that is done by the team, my table has been enjoying Shadowdark and it has been great playing it in FG.

Everything must be seperate to track sales. However, some way to open / close multiple modules at the same time would be a great feature. How about adding such a request to the FG wish list?

I made a similar request IIRC something like 4 or 5 years ago. Master module, parent module, bundle, pick a name. LOL.

My current solution is to create a campaign and name it "Template - Game or Campaign Name," which I set up once with all my extensions loaded and modules related to the game, etc. Then I just copy that directory and rename it something else for a live game.

It's not great, but it does mean I don't have to start from scratch all the time when starting a new campaign/game in a system.

Weapon properties

Cursed Scrolls 2 and 3 added a couple new weapon properties that aren't showing on weapon items: Lash (CS2) and Sundering (CS3).

The Razor Chain currently has the Loading property, but should have the Lash property.

Thanks for pointing this out. I requested that Bayne add these properties to the weapons record. Then I will fix the mistakes in the weapons.

EDIT: Unfortunately, Bane will not to add these properties to the rule set.

Looks like some new weapons and shields are added, thanks for that.
I see a silvered Greatsword, but the name is just Greatsword so it appears like there are two. Please name it Slivered Greatsword, similar to the Silvered Greataxe

There are magic shields, but they are not armor type items so they do not add to AC like the Shield does. Can these be changed to Armor as well?

Do you mean the new Arcane Library material? It will come eventually. AL wants to release everything on their website store first before permitting VTT conversions.

One small "typo"

Can you change the Base AC label on Shields to AC Mod to reflect what that number actually does.

Two somewhat related requests:
1. Can you change the Clothing Item Type to be treated like Armor (so I can have regular clothes provide a little AC without the proficiency restrictions of regular armor)?
2. Can you create an Armor Piece Item Type that acts like Shields?

I'm doing some homebrew stuff where you have Head, Torso, Arm and Leg armor for Leather, Chain and Plate. This allows mixing and matching and more player options.
Torso Armor Pieces would be treated like regular armor (sets the Base AC)
Head, Arm and Leg Armor Pieces would be treated like shields (may provide AC modifier)
They all have the Sundering property
Leather x1
Chain x2
Plate x3

Going to have my first playtest for them tonight.
