View Full Version : Weapon Strike Rank for Combat tracker

On the combat tracker it doesn't seem to incorporate the weapon Strike rank being used. Is there a way to choose the weapon being used so the tracker incorporates that? Also for the players, their weapons don't show up in the weapon drop down for the tracker either.

Sorry if this is obvious, but I am missing it, though I though I had it figured out in earlier sessions, yesterday's session I noticed the problem.

Thanks!

The combat tracker doesn't track players as they should be focused on their character sheet. There is an option to turn on Strike Rank tracking from the options. This however doesn't track the weapon and will need to be added manually.

Thanks for the respons. I can manually change the NPC Strike Rank on the tracked, but not the players. At least, I know I am not missing anything, but the tracker was the thing I was most interested in helping me with combat.

This feature is not available in the ruleset. Strike ranks are part of BRP 2010 edition but it has never been implemented, which is understandable since it's quite an undertaking and it was probably not even possible to pull of back in 2010 when this ruleset was originally created. I'm working on an extension that will enable proper strike rank handling, it's in early Beta phase and has not been tested in Live play. I'll keep you posted in this thread when I feel it's ready to be shared.

I would love to get the extension when it is up. Thanks!

Strike Ranks are no longer part of the BRP optional rules in the UGE edition. The implementation of the BGB is imperfect and somehow confusing. It's ok if someone makes an extension for it, but should the official ruleset support this rule that is no longer in use in BRP?

If you want a workable implementation of Strike Ranks, look at RuneQuest.

Strike ranks are optional and implemented to a degree. The weapon addition is all that isn't tracked when the option is turned on. We won't remove it since it's in an optional state.

Thanks for the information. Is there any plans to incorporate the weapon SR? Without the weapon sr included it really makes the tracker of limited purpose. The stat is in the weapon descriptions already, but I guess a designation of which weapon was readied would be needed. Or even if on the tracker the referee could change the SR numbers for the players manually like you can with the NPC would work.

I think I could look into a way to adjust the player's SR on the combat tracker to help GMs, but not fully implementing the weapon addition. This would need to change how the system operates and add in almost a pre-action selection system that is very different than the current implementation. There are no plans on expanding the ruleset like this at this time. My project list is pretty stacked at the moment with other company needs.

Understood. I will make it work.

The BRP ruleset implements the 2010 edition of the Basic Roleplaying rules. IMO any rule that is present in that edition is legit for implementation in the BRP ruleset. The official ruleset implements the 2010 edition (which is still available at chaosiums site as "BRP Classic" https://www.chaosium.com/brp-classic/), so any rule that exists in that edition could (should?) be supported by Smiteworks.

Well, my campaign is Runequest, but there is no ruleset by FGU or Forge that does it (unless I missed it). BRP is the closest (and really it is almost identical). I was operating in line with PeterB that it would be expected to work for BRP (especially as the option is indicated for it). I actually left Roll20 because of my expectation this ruleset would work for the system.

But I get it. Just disappointing as the combat tracker was the primary reason for a virtual table top program. Otherwise Zoom or discord and a die rolling program is all I really need as my campaign style is primarily theater of the mind unless dungeon crawl or infiltration is happening.

Just can't bring myself to go back to the more mainstream games like D&D that get most of the love.
