Was it always the case that locked records didn't have an Identified / Not Identified toggle?

Do you mean read only? If they are locked and read only, then no you can't change anything on them, other than share status.

Because locked records can be ID'd currently.

Yes, sorry I meant Read Only... Did you use to be able to? Did it change in 4.5?

I don't remember you able to edit Read Onlys.

NO, read only files are just that - read only. You can't edit them. When an item or NPC is added to a parcel or encounter they become copies and you can edit those; maybe that's what you are thinking of.

Thanks for all the replies. I think you are all correct, but I realized why I thought there might have been a change....

I've been recently showing more images to players from Volo's Guide to Monsters and Mordenkainen's Tome of Foes and was surprised in the moment that I couldn't make them un-ID'd. All the monster images in those books are read-only. This is not true for the Monster Manual and (m)any of the adventure books.

I guess my real question turns out to be: Are the images in VGTM and MTOF supposed to be read-only?

WotC discontinued sales of those two products in May 2022, and replaced with Monsters of the Multiverse. Those modules still use an old data and image formats which mark the data as read-only.

Is there any way to just mark these records as not read-only? I have to make a copy of each record in order to share them without giving away the name.

No. By design, records in core rulebooks are read-only, so you always have the default records available to work with. Images are never read-only, specifically for sharing.

What are you trying to share?

For example, I would like to share this "Babau" image without revealing that it is a babau:

I know I can make a copy of it and then un-ID it and then share the copy, but I'd like to just do that with the original like I can with the Monster Manual NPC images.

I'll need some time to look at this. Since it's an older module I'm not sure how easy it will be to make it so that the records are read only but the images aren't without breaking every link to every image.

Thanks for taking a look. Both Volo's Guide to Monsters and Mordenkainen's Tome of Foes suffer from this. I'd even prefer that everything in these was not read-only instead if that is an option.

I've updated both modules so that images are no longer read only.

I just ran an update and do not see any change for either module.

The whole process can take a while from when the dev submits an update to SmiteWorks to when it is available as part of the FG Update functionality.

Check the latest Release Update thread in the City Hall forum for when an update is available. The City Hall forum can be found here: https://www.fantasygrounds.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?37-City-Hall
