I am interested in setting up a group a of people who are interested mostly in roleplaying, enthusiastic about creating meaningful rather than powerful characters and happy to play D&D in whatever edition. If you enjoy D&D for its rules or perhaps like to find ways to enhance your character or if you simply find roleplaying too slow or too tough, then this is probably not the group for you.

I have some spots in existing games and am likely to play in Eurofriendly times, but send me a PM if you feel you meet the criteria above and I will let you know what is and might be happening. If there is enough interest, I will set up a group on the forums here.

EDIT: If someone would be kind enough to move the thread to the Guild House, posted here by mistake:)

Im a big fan of meaningful RP, using the ruleset as a tool rather than an end. Did a lot of longterm RP in neverwinter nights on a heavily RP focused server call Caenyr (www.worldofcaenyr.com), although being a gaming system its not exactly PnP.

anyway id be putting my hand up striaght away for this although I am in Australia so my timezone tends to set me outside the play times of most european/american groups. Still if theres anyway i can work around it would love to join in :)

Being myself another "fan" of meaningful roleplaying, I wish you luck with this.

And I think this sort of roleplaying shouldn't so rare, but at the contrary.

It has been my experience that most people play D&D for the roleplaying rather than the rules, even more the case since Wizards of The Coast has taken over and made a joke with rules.

I don't know if any of you guys are aware of it, but there is an entire sub-genre of roleplaying games called "Story Games," "Indie Games" or "Narrative Games."

The rules of these games are designed to maximize narrative potential and conflict (as opposed to just combat). They are extremely interesting and tons of fun!

There is a small enclave of indie game enthusiasts at the Four Ugly Monsters forum. We run around 3 games a week, and are always looking for new converts. If anyone is interested, send me an email at [email protected]

I'd love to, but my gaming allowance is all used up. If my Friday nights become free, I'll let you know.

An interesting sidenote here, is an old system I used to play in college (pnp) called Everway.

It had basic stats, of a sort, but it was ALL about the narration, and instead of complex math, when you wanted to do an action, you drew a card out of a stack and the DM 'interpreted' the card to determine if the action was successful.

It sounds like a hoakey deal, but some of the best pure roleplaying around.

Also of interest, it was WotC's very first RPG. I still have my copy, and I still use the cards to this day.
