View Full Version : Another Update - another F*** up. Storylinks missing

After the latest updates most story links dissapeared in several modules. For example: In the past, when you opened an location on the DM Map you had an small overview to the location and further links below to maps, texts, encounters and so on. Now all you have is the overview text. Funny enough: Not on ALL Entries. Only at ... 90% of them.

I had this issues in Curse of Strahd and Dragon of Icespire Peak which I both play actually with my groups. I have not checked the other modules I bought but I assume I will encounter the same issues there.

Has something changed the way this entries or the modules in general work?

I will be straight forward honest: Since I bought Fantasy Grounds, and put several 100 Euros in it, I was quite happy with the solution and the software. But the last updates are an absolute nightmare and are destroying my trust in the brand. I am not sure if I can still recommend to use this software if the Devs decide to go haywire with their updates and dont check if they break stuff.

And the last updates, at least for me, more stuff got broken than fixed.

I want to mention that on Curse of Strahd NOTHING on maps or links has been changed by me. Everything is original. And it is not working anymore at all.

EDIT: I use no extensions.

There have been no updates to Curse of Strahd for some time; can you say exactly what isn't working? Or is it just the missing next and previous arrows on simple story entries?

The devs are working on getting the missing arrows for next and previous pages on simple story entries back. At the moment they are only on the advanced story entries (previously reference manual pages).

One other thing; make sure you are looking at story pages and not advanced story pages (they are all on one list now). If you click on any map pin it will take you to the simple story entry for that location and all of the necessary links will be on that page. The Advanced story pages may not have all of those links since this is an older module and the reference was added much later than the original version of the module. You can use the dropdown at the top of the story list to filter which chapter you want to look at in the module. (The simple story chapters all start with CoS followed by a number and chapter title. The advanced story pages can be viewed by selecting D&D Curse of Strahd). The Advanced story pages are best viewed by going to Books and selecting the Curse of Strahd from there.

As Zacchaeus says, please provide details of what exactly isn't working. Exact steps to reproduce the issue will help us help you.

I checked it out on another PC with an other module and a completely fresh campaign set up. The module I used was "The yawning portal" and here the "Forge of Fury"
A classic one as we can for sure agree but that doesn´t matter.

As it seems, when I open a storyentry, the Buttons for next and previous page are missing.

EDIT: Basically that seems to be the issue I have with my running campaigns too. Its not that story entries are missing. Its simple the buttons for changing pages.

I have the same issue in Curse Of Strahd in the story Tab. I have made extensive notes/additions/encounters in each chapters of the Module story, Next and previous pages buttons are missing. The issue is happening with and without extensions

As Mr Z said, the missing forward/next buttons are a known issue and are being worked on. It's do to the consolidation of various story entry types (legacy Story > Simple Story and Ref Man > Adv Story)

I hope it is fixed soon cause at Monday I have my next round. I know you are working hard to give us new features and add new stuff and evolve Fantasy Grounds and I like that. But the last updates are really a downer for me. It started with the information that all changes I did to campaigns are basically down the drain. And this is the next sucker punch for me. It really make me cautious working with Fantasy Grounds and modify anything as I simply cant be sure anymore that it works the other day.

The recent update will not have made all your changes disappear. If you were running a campaign using certain official modules it may be that some maps may have changed and right clicking on the image name on the image list will restore that map. No other changes have been made that would remove edits to stories, NPCs, encounters, or anything else you may have edited.

Apart from the next and previous buttons nothing else is standing in your way. The story entries are still accessible in the most common way of clicking on map pins. You can get a list of the story entries for a particular chapter by using the drop down at the top of the story list to filter that out.

Though you can navigate to other pages in different ways...the next and previous buttons are rather essential and helpful. I'm a big supporter of Fantasy Grounds and have purchased numerous addons. It'd be nice to see a fix quickly.

Just use the reference manual/book. The story entries in there still have the buttons. I think the entire change is to move in that direction instead of the old simple story links.

You can also drag simple story links into a book as well. I thought it was going to be a nightmare without the old buttons but it turns out that I actually like the book organization better and arrows still appear.

Sounds great...except I write my own stories...so the story entries don't have the buttons.

Click the Books option under Library on the right hand side, then click the campaign button.

Now you have a custom campaign (blank book), drag your story entries over, organize anyway you want, then when you open one from the book they have the forward and back arrows.

This should get you by until they get the arrows back in place in the simple story entries.

I'm also running CoS and exceedingly frustrated with this bug/feature. Means you can't switch between pages from a Story pin on the map. Workaround requires more "windows" open.

I've just pushed a new update to the patch system that should address this. Please run a new Check for Updates, and try again.
