View Full Version : Problem seeing new Dice - Stars & Clovers / Hearts & Skulls

Hello,

Not sure if this is the best place to post this or not, but I just bought the two newer dice packs - Stars & Clovers, and Hearts & Skulls. I am having a serious issue seeing the numbers on the dice itself. They look extremely blurry, and as someone who wears glasses, I keep thinking it is my eyes.

I have no issues seeing the numbers on the other dice packs, and yes I know the number will eventually show in the chat box as well, there is just something about seeing the number on the screen.

I am using the dice in the pathfinder 1e ruleset.

I don't know if this can be reworked or anything, but I just wanted to make a post on this, as this bothers me more than I would like it to.

While I mainly use the d20, the rest of the dice are blurry as well, except the d8 and d6 are ok. A few numbers seem blurry. If you need screenshots I can get those, but as my friends see them as blurry as well, makes me think that is just how they are.

Thanks,
Elaith

Do they look like this to you?

The d6's look like that. Otherwise, everything else looks like this:

All of them look about the same as the screen shot above, but the green skulls seem a little worse, but that could just be the color making it seem worse.

They seem ok to me. What's your monitor's resolution and what UI scale are you using?

Resolution: 3440x1440, ui scale is at 100. I also have the dice size at 80%, as opposed to the 100% it looks like you have. The d12 looks a little better at 100%, but the d20 still seems blurry to me. Even in your image.

At least when compared to the crystal clarity of some of the other dice sets, so I know my screen resolution should not have anything to do with it currently, unless it specifically affects those dice. But since your d20 looks blurry to me, perhaps it is just me.

Adding a screen shot of the knots of fate (Fx) dice. To me, that d20 is crystal clear, as opposed to the hazy look of the new dice. Perhaps that was the look you guys were going for? I do not know. But it actually bothers my eyes.

At 80% the dices are smaller than the models on the dice selector. On my 2560x1440 screen I have troubles to read them, they are blurry, whatever the skin I choose.
In fact I only use 120% because, for me, they are just starting to be confortable to use, I would prefer a lot larger (200% and more).
On a 4k screen like yours I imagine that the dices appears to be even smaller. I envy your young eyes.
Does they appear blurry even at 120%?
If the small size is important to you (because of a lack of space perhaps) I would suggest using 120% and disabling the dices in the dice selector. We mostly use dices by clicling on the sheets anyway.
I hope your problem could find a solution.

Yeah, the d20 looks a little weird actually; it looks like it isn't square on to the viewer but at some kind of angle. Compared to other dice it does look a little off. I actually had the dice set at 90% which I didn't realise when I took that screenshot; but changing the size doesn't seem to make a difference to me at any rate. Your screen resolution is much wider than mine at 2560 but I don't know as you say whether that makes any real difference.

It is only the new dice that I have issues with. I can see pretty much all the other dice packs just fine. A few are difficult, as they don't have a bright color, but they are not blurry, and I can see them if I look closer.

The newer packs, are just plain blurry, even when I roll them, I can barely tell what number was rolled - does not matter what size I make the dice, nor what resolution I change to.

But thank you for the reply.

I am not sure if anything can be done to make it clearer, but if anything I wanted to bring it to the devs attention, just in case something could be done. It is possible that is the best that could be done with the font that was used for the d20. I would prefer if an improvement could be make. But alas, I am a sucker for dice packs, and i'll just have to try and make due, but I have considered refunding the pack, just because something feels seriously off with the dice.

Either way, thank you for the reply/insights.

Ho ok, I understand. Have you tried tweaking some parameters in your graphic card settings? (except the dreaded number of images/seconde which you shall keep deactivited for FGU).
I don't want to cause you any problem with this suggestion so please screenshot your actual settings before tweaking!

If by some miracle messing around with my graphics card would fix it, very good chance that it would mess up all of my other dice packs that are crystal clear. Not to mention, other players are not able to see the die when I roll it, due to same blurry type image, so it would do nothing to correct that.

It sounds like I am just stuck with dealing with it. At least you can still see the number in the chat box when it prints out, but there is just something about seeing the die roll and land on a 20, that I always liked. Plus FGU likes to tease you alot by skidding across the screen on a 20, only to flip over to another number.

Thank you all for the replies - as far as I can tell, it is nothing on my end, and any adjusting of resolution/graphics settings will most likely affect my other dice packs.

As a side note, I changed the dice size to 120% and it became a bit clearer. I can at least read the numbers when the die is rolled. I usually keep the dice size at 80%, so it just seems the font used on the die does not like being shrunk to 80%. There still seems to be a bit of blurriness, but I can at least make out the numbers now.

I can just crank the size to 120 when I use the new packs. I don't really like it at the 120, I am one of those people that likes his space management, hehe.

I am hoping eventually something can be done to make the dice clearer at 80%, but I can deal with it at 120% for now. Just thought I would add this information for anyone else that is having the same issue.

Thanks again.
