FG v4.5 Issue

Hello!

First off, the new update looks amazing! I can't wait to show my players! Only issue I've run into is every time I open a map I'm getting this error prompt and I cannot figure out why. Hoping someone might be able to shed some light on it!

I've disabled all of my extensions and the error is gone. Which is great, but I need the extensions to run my campaign. So I'm not certain this has helped other than to let me know it's one of the 30+ extensions I'm running. Is there a way to narrow it down?

The only real option you have is to turn them back one at a time and reload and see if the error comes back.
Tedious, but that is the best we got.

Yep, turn on half your extensions, test. Then turn on half the extensions that have the troublesome extension. Test. Repeat until you identify the extension causing the problem. Then understand and expect that your issue could be caused be the interaction of two or more extensions, so it may not be simple to find.

Here's my "generic" response to extension errors:
One of your extensions needs to be updated or disabled. First try updating all your extensions and see if that fixes it. If not, create a new campaign with no extensions to test that FG itself is not an issue. Then add in one extension at a time until you find which one (or combination) is/are causing the issue. Then talk with the extension developer and see if they can update and fix their extension.

As you have probably no doubt heard before, if you are going to use lots of extensions, you are going to need to do a lot of testing and research with every update to FG. I suggest that each time an FG update comes out, you do the following;
- Check to see if it updates any rulesets or core application functions (see Forumns> City Hall), if so do not update until:
- Wait 5-10 days after the update, then
- Check the forum or DMsGuild or Discord thread for each extension and determine if anyone else has reported problems with it and if the developer reports it being fixed
- Update any non-Forge extensions manually
- At least 3 days prior to your gaming session, update and test. Using a second instance of FG to connect as a player and test player things.
- Identify which extensions still have issues and if you can't get a fix before game time, disable it for that session.

The only way currently is loading each one and seeing which one is producing the error. But from the error it looks like the 5E Save Overlay might be the culprit

The fastest way to find the extension in a large list is to do a binary search. Disable half of the extensions and check for the error. This will tell you which half of your extensions the error is occurring in. Disable half of the extensions in that list and repeat the process. Definitely try 5E Save Overlay first though.

Unfortunately, Fantasy Grounds doesn't come with all the options I'm looking for so until they add them extensions are necessary. I don't mind troubleshooting when they go down, just needed some guidance on where to start.

Save Overlay is one of them. There appear to be a few. It seems like it's anything that altered the map buttons or doesn't understand the new camera angle. Easy Lights is another I've found broken so far. I believe I've got one more left to find.

**EDIT: I was able to contact the creators of both Save Overlay and Friend Zone, but the creator of Easy Lights, Rob2e, isn't accepting messages nor has a link to the forum on the extension page. If anyone is able to contact Rob2e and could let them know I'm sure many would appreciate it :)**

The three culprits were:

Easy Lights
Save Overlay
Friend Zone

I'm reaching out to the creators to let them know.

The binary search can be expedited if you open "extensionstate.xml" in notepad++ and comment out what you would like to turn off.

There can still be situations where an extension works by itself or with many others, but not with one other specific extension. =)

Also, I envy being able to run 5e with only 30 extensions... I'm up to 105. I'm 5 hours into trying to get enough of the right ones running to be able to prep for Monday's session.

- Points of Interest

It's still happening though, so gotta keep going.
