How does the 4.5 updates token view 3D mode work?

Whenever I switch 3D mode to token view, it just shows a close-up of the ground. I know it's supposed to be a first-person view from the token's perspective, but how do I make the token look at something besides the ground? I attached an image to show what I mean.

Hold spacebar and use the he mouse to look around. It should automatically face towards clumps of NPCs. Do you have any on the map?
