View Full Version : FGU Memory Usage out of control

ok, think FGU latest version (since they added webp images) is not releasing memory when you open images and close images. This is very noticeable if you open and close large maps (images). My last session which ended with 22GB being used by FGU. After the session I created a Test Campaign (5E core) with no extensions and loaded one module (Crown of the Oathbreaker). I then proceeded to open and close images (especially the Royal Palace # Level Ruined Players), the memory is now at 6GB with the memory not going down. I'm sure I could get it to 22GB+ by opening and closing images.

Just checked memory is at 10GB and I stopped opening and closing images about 30 minutes ago.

15GB and climbing 20 minutes later. Haven't opened or closed any more images. I do have Royal Palace Third Level Ruined Players open and it does have effects called Rain/Clouds/Water/Myst layers

Closed FGU at 22GB and climbing. Restarted FGU as above no extension loaded and 1 module Crown of the Oathbreaker. Opened Royal Palace Third Level Ruined Players watching the memory climb with no other windows or forms being opened. Note I deleted the effects from this map (only has lighting) and it had no effect, the memory is still climbing at 2.2GB after being open for less than 5 minutes.

10 minutes later we are at 4GB and climbing. Note no other window has been opened or closed. Nothing has been done, just let FGU sit in the background.

This should be fixed in a coming build. Thanks for reporting it.

I'm seeing the same problem on MacOS (14.2.1), I can watch memory usage increase throughout play. FGU eventually becomes unresponsive when usage exceed 30GB. Any news on when we can expect a fix?

There is a beta currently on the TEST server that is the next version of the software. You can change over to that server to give things a try.

Still not fixed in the latest patch. 4.7GB after 5 minutes and climbing. Note running Test Campaign with No Extenstions and 1 Mod Crown of the Oathbreaker. Only have 1 map open.

30 minutes later and we are at 16.7GB while doing nothing but let it run in background

Interesting thing happened...hit over 20GB and then came back and checked on it and it dropped down to 8.5GB...It back to climbing though

hit 25GB and it crashed. We were at 97% memory.

I've just done some testing using the "Royal Palace Third Level Ruined Players" map from Crown of the Oathbreaker. I see the memory creep you note. I can significantly reduce the memory creep if I hide the second "Time of day" effects layer, and stop the creep completely if I hide the first "Time of day" effects layer as well.

Thanks for reporting the issue, hopefully this will help the devs find out what's causing this specific issue.

There is definitely a significant memory issue with the Time of Day effect. For now, I recommend disabling the layer.

Thanks all for this...deleted the Time of Day effects and fixed issue.
