11- Description: The Transit Guild is looking for help in finding one of its own who has gone missing. Two weeks ago Almus braved the Big Water to investigate the rumor of a rare fresh water source. Though he has years of experience in the swamp near the village of Kith'takharos, he has not returned. Will you find Almus dead or alive? More importantly, will you succeed where he failed?
Character Descriptions:
1.Cennish, Lan (Dwarf Male). Growing up the son of Stavros Cennish, everyone expected Lan to apprentice with his father. But Lan had no interest in the magical crafts; he preferred the outdoors to a forge or the mixing of potions. He was ecstatic when Niki Ocnita took an interest in the Tipped Cup and relieved him of the responsibility of following in his father's footsteps.
Lan misses his father. Even though Stavros expressed nothing but pride in his son, Lan cannot shake the feeling that he somehow let the old man down. The desire to please his father still drives him towards perfection. On the other hand, Lan almost always forgives the foibles of his friends.
2. Lungan, Harl (Halfling Male). Harl grew up in Kith'takharos, listening to the stories of the scouts and explorers who serve the Order of the Jade Leaf. He often exasperated his parents by wandering into the swamp in emulation of his heroes. The lad escaped serious injury, and soon it became clear that he actually had a talent for moving silent and unseen, as well as a good recognition of the dangers inherent in the swamp. No one was surprised when he reached adulthood and began his own explorations.
3. Anes Mabrouk (Half-Orc Female). For many years, Anes served as a ship's marine on the merchant vessel Jak's Surprise. Although she was competent and helped fend off brigands more than once, Anes missed her far off home in the Uqbar Federation. She began drinking to dull the pain of lost friends and family. Soon she became a functional alcoholic and hid her addiction well. However, she eventually consumed one too many ales and slept in the Salted Eel while her ship sailed. Now Cyrus Morgan occasionally hires her as an additional bouncer when the Salted Eel gets crowded. She makes just enough to keep herself in drink.
When lucid, Anes realizes that she must soon make a decision and either attempt a return to Uqbar or remain in Kith'takharos. She has developed a soft spot for Kith'takharos, for these people have accepted her and all her flaws without rendering judgment.
4. Nightsinger, Lauralin (Half-Elf Female). Lauralin migrated to Kith'takharos from Port Lissup two years ago. Although Port Lissup is only a small city, it was still too large and impersonal for her. At first, she purchased a small swamp boat and transported goods for merchants. She became familiar with the swamp and its dangers, and her skills became more expensive. By now she has gained the confidence to strike out on her own, although she does not yet have a plan.
5. Sartar, Chios (Human Male). Now in his mid 20's, Chios has been a strong arm for pay since he was seventeen years old. He was born in Port Lissup, but was made unwelcome after a long string of petty thefts and bullying. He fell in with the famed poacher Huygens Tierney two years ago, and the association was profitable until Huygens ambushed a group of explorers working for the Order of the Jade Leaf.
Koran Thelig captured Chios and returned him to the Order of the Jade Leaf for justice. Huygens escaped the encounter. After much hard labor and personal reflection, Chios began training as a guard for swamp foraging expeditions. Chios proved himself loyal and has since been granted his freedom.
6. Batu, Vladimar (Human Male). Not everyone has the resources of the Transit Guild or the Order of the Jade Leaf. Some people have to acquire their swamp boats the old fashioned way: with their own money. Most of these people seek out Vladimar Batu. He has most of the usual models on hand, both new and used, and can also fulfill special orders because of his contacts with the craftsman. But Vladimar also has latent magical abilities. He doesn't always trust them, as they developed spontaneously and without formal training, and he has hidden them well. Now, however, he has summoned his nerve and seeks adventure.
7. Utrecht, Jan (Human Male). At one single moment in his life, Jan Utrecht was a coward. He fled the battlefield while him comrades fought and died. No matter that the engagement had turned into a rout and others also fled. He should have stayed and healed the injured. Instead, he shamed a centuries old Visserian military tradition. Jan ran until he thought no one would find him, and now he has arrived in Kith'takharos.
8. Charaton, Aetius (Elf Male). Everyone in Kith'takharos knows Aetius the Ice Wizard. He creates ice blocks so that the Sheltering Frond can serve cool drinks and slushes. Although Aetius' skills warrant more lucrative opportunities, he has been content to work for Cylene Edarrion, perhaps because there are so few Elves in Kith'takharos. But even an Elf has only so much patience, and Aetius wonders how the rest of this hot and humid swamp will welcome his frigid abilities.
