Is there a different way to zoom in and out on images besides the mouse wheel?

I'm seeing an issue where when running D&D 5e from a laptop and connecting with a second account on a 55" 4k TV on the table that the zoom level changes between sessions.

Using the mouse wheel zooms with distinct intervals but the "steps" that these intervals move between don't seem to be locked to the same "steps" every time I open the image.

Example (making up numbers):

Squares are 1"x1" exactly. Mouse wheel increases to 1.2" or decreases to 0.8".

Next time I log in the squares might be 1.1" and now the mouse wheel can only increase to 1.3" or decrease to 0.9".

This makes it so the miniatures set on the TV now don't line up with the squares from the previous session no matter if I zoom farther in or out.

Is there a way to do more fine zooming with the mouse wheel? (Control/Shift/Alt don't seem to change anything)

It's generally not a huge pain to move some miniatures to match the new squares, but I'm just curious about why it happens.

You can also zoom using the image zoom control. Press CTRL and the gold pan button in the bottom right of the image will change to a zoom button. Left-click and hold the mouse button on this and then move the mouse up/down to zoom in and out. It takes a bit of getting used to, but it can give very fine zoom control.

As you're using minis on a TV, you may find this extension, which auto sizes an image to present a 1 inch grid on the TV, useful: https://forge.fantasygrounds.com/shop/items/7/view

The mouse zoom is a fixed amount per mouse-wheel "notch." Sensitivity settings on your mouse would likely modify the number of notches per scroll, but it seems unlikely you are changing the setting between sessions.

There will some new view controls in the next major release, but there is no time frame for that yet.

CTRL-pan button should work perfectly. I didn't realize that was a thing. Thanks!

I have experimented with that extension previously, but it really didn't work out. Depending on the map, I often want the squares to be either a little bigger (to have more breathing room between minis in a small area), or a little smaller (to have a bigger area of the map visible at a time when things are spread out).

I should be able to work around the issue with CTRL-pan button.

I'm definitely not changing the mouse or mouse settings in any way.

It does always seem to give the same zoom amount per mouse-wheel "notch"... it's just that the starting point always seems different, so the same specific zoom level from the previous session is literally not available using the mouse-wheel, as one "notch" skips over it.

I'm excited to hear about the new options!

Thanks for everything.

The set zoom process will set the initial zoom level to give you close to 1 inch per grid square on your screen (depending on the /tvsize setting used). Once it's got to to 1 inch then you can use zoom to make the grid smaller or larger than 1 inch on your screen. It's just a way of getting you to a 1 inch square quickly, but if it doesn't help you in your gaming then that's cool.
