The Palentir (https://thepalentir.com) is a new website I started in january and that I just opened to the public. It is orientated towards the FG community an I enjoy you to read the disclaimer that you can find on the main page at this time.

At the present, it is still evolving but no longer "in construction" and it is ready to receive people. There is a small Tutorial on how to create one's own ruleset (only the basics but good for new users) and a number of downloadable generic maps in the "Museum".

The section names have been flavored so it might be difficult to navigate at first glance but I am confident that all will make sense very quickly. As I am weary of people using forums for unwanted publicity (like porn and the such) the registration process must be approved by an administrator but I fullheartedly enjoin you to register and take part in the site! Be sure that I will check everyday for the first month and make sure to let everyone from here in :)

Also, there is a small Tavern map that I think most would like.
Find it and take it, it's free!
Just post a comment or rate it if you like it.
Other things should pop-up soon too so do keep an eye on the site.

What does this site do that other support sites do not? Take for example Fouruglymonsters which already has a pretty good base of people that keep tabs on the industry.

Space!

I will start accepting submissions so to build a library of stuff the community needs. Take the maps for exemple. There is a nice interface to search and save the maps you need. All registered members will be able to submit maps so that the library grows. Modules and rulesets also. I will still accept or not the maps and modules so that it stays pertinent and fruitfull to search the website without having to look trough 20 pages of less usefull stuff.

Lastly, I'dd like to give a voice to the knowledgeable individuals in our community by giving them columns or monthly editorial space that they can use to give usefull advice, tricks and mods.

Here is an idea, and this is to everyone who wants to make a website...
If you want we (FUM) can create a special part of the forums for you and Palentir.
That way people don't have to keep going to a lot of different forums to get the same info. You can still have your site with all it's features. It also saves you the headache of moderating an entire forum.

I don't want to come off as heavy handed or inconsiderate of your own views or ideas but it seems that we already have enough forums that people are already going in between.

FUM had planned to offer many of the things you are planning and I'm all for it. There is a need for a collection of these things and a searchable one would be cool.
If you find you would like to have your Forums at FUM let me know.

And like I said earlier this isn't just directed at you, I think with a market as small as ours it doesn't benefit anyone to have 5-6 sites doing the same thing when combining all the great talent an wealth of info into 1 or 2 sites would server the community better.

Thanks.

One problem with FUM (pointed out there too) is the very small icons for new messages et all. Dunno how many others than me out there that has bad eyesight and occasionally shaky hands... but it tends to make me look for alternatives when I can't easily access a forum to read what is new. (Sorting so that it shows newest posts first is another good alternative...)

I thank you very much devinnight and I will look into having a forum on your boards. If there would be an automatic rss feed option there, I would grab it at once. I will ask officially on the FUM site though to get permission to put a link on my site to the FUM site.

But I did not make my site mainly for the forums. Even though I like forums and enjoy this media to exchange ideas, I find it cumbersome to find exactly the information I need or content I can download. So my site is more of a newspaper style where writers have front page space and where you can find what you need easily. Of course, I welcome comments on the "stories" published (like replies on a forum thread) to rectify things or simply to express one's opinion about it. Also, these stories can be rated so one can easily find the best rated texts (those people find usefull). Only members can vote and then only once.

Two new maps (https://thepalentir.com/modules/myalbum/) have been uploaded for your downloading pleasure :)

A Wood Shack that can be used in any medieval or modern campaign.
A Occultist's Lair to be used alone or in combination with the Wood Shack.

You need a Castle in Ruins quick and easy.
Or you might just need the underground level of a castle.
Then just go see and download these maps and your all set!
