View Full Version : ChatGPT and the Adventure Deck

So, I've got my ChatGPT premium account and I've been having some fun with it, but I was wondering if there was a way to get it to write the code to customize an Adventure Deck? I've tried doing this on my own and lets just say code is not my forte :)

look in the docs folder for Adventure Deck Documentation.pdf tells you what you need to do...

Thanks for chiming in! I kind of figured this would be the case... oh well :)
As for the README, I'm sure for someone who codes, that little bit is enough. For someone like myself, that document is going to need a step by step ELI5 treatment for it to be of any use to me. It leaves too many questions. And no disrespect intended, just being honest. And no I'm not asking for a rewrite either. You do a lot for the community and it is appreciated, but yeah... I was kind of hoping this AI thing would fix this problem for me. Thanks again for chiming in!

The AI might fix it at first, then the cards will start taking over the World!!
I made the Supers Adventure Deck using the documents in the Adventure Deck module, its pretty straight forwards, provide images and text for each card and add them to the list. It is not coding, just follow the examples.
If I get time I might make a tutorial, but works a bastard at the moment, so many customers!!
Happy New Year!

Given the headlines, a takeover of the world by the cards might not be so bad :)
But yeah, I opened both the README and the .lua, and to be honest, that just made it even more confusing... Like am I building this file from scratch, editing the one I have open, or am I editing an existing one? And if I'm editing an existing, which one would that be? And then where would I put said file? Like I said in my original post, all of this kind of stuff is not my forte... Absolutely 100% outside of my wheelhouse. Seriously, if someone can put some sort of check box GUI for this on the Forge, I'd gladly pay for it. It would be nice to be able to use the deck without having to discard cards I would've sorted out.

Just bought the SWADE version of the Adventure Deck and I'm looking to build a custom deck, but really just do not understand the steps needed to do this manually. Truly, it is outside of my wheelhouse. I was thinking of trying AI again to see if it could do the work for me. Has anyone tried this, and have you had any luck? I sure would like to use this product, but need a way to curate the deck that doesn't involve me editing documents. I was really hoping that a simple checkbox UI would've been added with the new version.

I can write an extension for this, but it will have to be after bug fixes I have to finish for the Tuesday release.

Put it on the Forge, and I will absolutely buy it!

I've been pondering starting a patreon for stuff like this. Do you think this would get much interest?

I wouldn't be interested, because I find the example folders and readme in the S2P10013FG2 extension make it clear what's require to build your own deck. That said, I do feel that adventure decks are core to SWADE gameplay and I've been using them with good results for 15 years. And going by the many SW adventure decks available at drivethru, there's no doubt going to be GMs who will find digging into the extension too cryptic and be willing to pay for a user friendly interface.

It's really not a matter of whether the instructions are clear or not. When I switched over to FG a decade plus ago, one of the main reasons they won me over from Roll20 was because I wouldn't have to code a thing. This, along with the built in books were the two prime selling factors. And truthfully, I coded enough in high school to know that I absolutely hate it. I would rather gouge my eyes out with a spork... So, when I purchased the deck, I was pretty disappointed to see that there was no easy option to curate the cards. Even so, I'll gladly pay if somebody offered a GUI on the forge. Until then though... it's just going to sit unused because I'll be damned if I'm going to attempt to figure it out.

No coding required. Edit the text file and remove the cards you don't want.

I'll get to the requested functionality.
We have a big April release that requires reworking effects, and I'm behind on four products, plus other maintenance and fixes in SWADE.
