Portrait dot used to represent dice color but is always black?

At one time the portrait in upper left of app showing PCs had a dot on it that represented dice color. Now it seems to always be black in TEST even after I selected some purple magical dice for client logged in on that PC.

Am I misremembering what this represents?

The dot color is the color set in Options > Color: Active character. It's the color also used for the user's pointer color. I think this color was decoupled from dice color around when custom dice were added.
