I have my FGU installed on a Desktop (Game Server) which normally I use while running my Campaign. However, I need to be away from it for a few games. Want to install a version on my Laptop computer log into the campaign and run it while away but can only log in to the server as the Admin. How do I join the campaign remotely as the Admin and have the GM info available, not as another player? Any install or connecting suggestions would be great. That and I could use the laptop then to develop more campaign details without having to wait until I have time to sit at my Server.

Note if I need to purchase a new Admin license of FGU to install I would consider it. Or is there a Server Space share of FGU that I could Subscribe to and web connect to it instead of local Server? - Any and all suggestions will give me something to consider.

You can install and use you License on any number of computers (just not at the same time).

Just install it on your laptop, enter your key.

You'll need to copy your campaign from your desktop to the laptop though.

Can I Copy My Campaign Data From One Computer To Another If They Both Have FGU? (https://fantasygroundsunity.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/FGCP/pages/2045181969/All+About+Campaigns+-+Your+Questions+Answered#Can-I-Copy-My-Campaign-Data-From-One-Computer-To-Another-If-They-Both-Have-FGU%3F)

Just don't think to store your FG Data Folder on the cloud or network share and have both computers use the same location without understanding the potential for data corruption.
- If two instances of FG try to use the same data/campaign at the same time, only one will win and data will be lost.
- Cloud services like Google Drive and One Drive are known to cause data corruption with the FG Data folder. Not always, not often; but often enough that the devs and community recommend they not be used. And if you still insist on using such that you make sure to disable update/syncs while using FG.

Thank you for using Fantasy Grounds!

Any and all suggestions will give me something to consider.

I’m glad you said that, because you’re probably going to want to come at this more like a network admin than a game admin.

Because of the way FGU is built with the Unity 3D engine as a base, there is no “server version” or CLI or anything like that. It’s one license per account, and “GM sharing” isn’t something that is currently available.

Your best bet would probably be to forget about logging into the Desktop FGU with a laptop install of FGU, and instead set up something like Tailscale (which I highly recommend, personally) or TeamViewer, and log in to the desktop remotely, controlling it as if you were sitting in front of it.

With tailscale, you shouldn’t need to worry about opening ports, setting up a bunch of complicated services, etc.

Please let me know if we can be of further assistance.

Sincerely,

Thanks for the responses, That is what I was afraid was the case. Hate the idea of copying back and forth between the two computers but that may just be what I have to do.
Or give up my desktop version and install it on my laptop and just work off of it.

Appreciate the fast responses. I will keep an eye out for future suggestions just in case.

We're NOT saying that you can't transfer between the laptop and the main desktop using a cloud location. Just that you do NOT want to point your LIVE campaign data location at the synced location. Check my signature for a simple bat file to automatically copy your campaign info to a cloud location every time you exit FG.

Thanks, I will check that out. Sounds like a good time saver.
