Ruleset: 5E
Extensions: None
Modules: Player's Handbook, Xanathar's (DM version, Tasha's (DM version)
The Artificer does not show up as a class under "Classes" or in the Character wizard. It seems to work just fine in the Player's Version of Tasha's Cauldron.
Is this by design?

The classes only show up in Tasha's player module.

Ok That's fine. Last I had heard, the DM was not supposed to have to open both a Player's version and the DM/normal version and since lots of DM's also run a characters too, I just assumed it would be in both. I just didn't know.

Some of the old books were done that way but that made it so if a player opened a book he got the DM content which 1): FG in some cases was not set up for; and/or 2) Gave the players spoilers on adventures.
Generally, for those and some other reasons, commercial content with both player and GM portions are now split into two modules as part of the conversion to FG process. This also gives the GM better control on whether the player content can be opened or disallowed in a campaign.

I meant that my understanding was there was the Player's version book, which only had Player content but then the DM book was the FULL book with nothing omitted. I didn't think you had to open both.

It used to be that way, but was causing too many issues so books now (for a year or two) the DM version only has DM content and does not duplicate the player's content.

Oh ok. thanks for the clarification. My players normally only use the PHB and Xanathar's so I guess I hadn't encountered it before. Thanks everyone.
