View Full Version : Not Detecting New Assets and Need to Suppress Duplicate Image Messages...

A couple of questions/observations about FGU Image Import:

1. Is there a trick to automatically detect new assets in FGU after you have already launched the campaign?

In order to see the new assets I added so that I could import them into Images, I had to quit and relaunch the campaign. Am I missing something?

My expectation is that when I hit the "Library:Assets" button in the right nav (or, also logically, the "Create From Campaign Assets" button in Images) that FGU will rescan/update my campaign folder and assets and include any new files that I may have added mid-game. But, that does not seem to be happening. I hope there is a quick solution or workaround for this issue. If I am GMing and need to quickly add an image mid-game, I don't want to have to force everyone to disconnect/reconnect and completely relaunch the campaign in order to see the new asset. FGC does not have this issue.

2. When clicking the "Create From Campaign Assets" button in the Images window and proceeding with an import to try to update images, there is a tremendous amount of (unwanted) duplicate image error spew in the chat. Is there a workaround for this issue to suppress the output?

If not, it would be great if there were a checkbox (checked by default) in the "Images:Create from Campaign" pop-up window that would suppress duplicate image warnings. We don't need to see them and the spew completely distorts the current context of game play in the chat.

Thanks!

For your first one click on the refresh button at the bottom of the Assets/Images window once you have added a new image to Campaign/Images. This will refresh the images (and tokens) that you have dropped into the images folder (both into the campaign/images folder and to the main images folder in FGData).

To avoid the second problem don't import from campaign assets (since that's a global import and you will get messages if the images have already been imported). Rather click on the individual asset you just added and then click on create image record to add to campaign.

@Zacchaeus Thanks for the tip on the refresh button! I definitely didn't initially notice it. That's a big help. Thanks!

I guess you could add assets while the asset window is open, so refreshing when opening the asset window wouldn't necessarily be sufficient. So, the refresh button is probably best, assuming you don't miss it like me. :D But, it might not hurt to at least do an implied campaign refresh when the user clicks on the Asset button so that they don't have to click a second button to get what they want.

On the error text issue -- I imported from the Images window and, by default, it shouldn't be necessary (and isn't helpful) to show all the errors (unless you're debugging or concerned that you already imported something - corner cases). The campaign asset window human factors are somewhat cumbersome and it is too much work to have to find all the changed images that you just dropped into a campaign folder, especially given the limited display space in that window. You have to keep scrolling through the sea of existing images to then import them individually to use as campaign images.

As a user, I want to hit one button, have the app import all the deltas to the currently-selected Image category and I don't want to see a bunch of irrelevant error spew (for things I know are duplicates and don't care) that displaces campaign text (and also then drives stuff off the end of FGU's relatively limited text buffer -- another human factors issue). It's really a simple fix -- just give users a checkbox in the Create from Campaign Assets pop-up to not show the duplicate errors (on by default) or to show them (off by default).

Global import or not -- the overhead is very minimal and instantaneous. The global import from Images takes less than a second. It's pretty much a non-issue, whereas the human factors benefit to the harried GM who just wants to quickly get all the images into the current Images section is huge!

I hope this is an area where FGU can improve the human factors. It's just a checkbox. ;)

Fair point; I never used import from campaign assets so it's not something that I've noticed. I'd suggest that you add your request to the wish list so that the developers get to know about it.

Thanks. Tried to do that, but https://fgapp.idea.informer.com/ is a dead link. Who owns the informer.com domain and why aren't they using https? Kind of surprising. Oh, I see - it's http only...and it's no longer fg2 as the subdomain. OK -- I'll take a look at it...but it less a feature and more of a direct fix. Anyway -- thanks, Zacchaeus. I also requested that informer.com upgrade to basic https support.

Hopefully the developers are also maintaining an internal bug database and they can add the issue of removing the error spew in the chat.
