I saw on reddit so that doesn't make it true, but it stated a mobile app was coming for Fantasy Grounds and at least would start out as a module reader. Is there any update on this? Have been debating switching to DnD Beyond just for that functionality but have used Unity for a long time now so would like to stick with it but I can't justify paying for physical copies and then digital copies on two different software. If this is posted somewhere else please point me in the right direction. I used the search function for "mobile" and "mobile app" but it didn't return anything related to what I am asking. Thanks in advance for any insight on this.

It's something that's in development; but we have no concrete time frame currently. It would not be available this year; and likely not available until Q2/Q3 2024. I hesitate to state a date, because we are still working out what it will look like and how it will work. We hope it will go faster as we work through items; but it is also a new platform for us (iOS/Android).

Pff I bet you could get some free coding from the community to speed it up some. LOL I look forward to it

I'm waiting for the module reader as well. I hope I will also be able to read my own exported/imported modules!
It will be a great selling point, I'm sure.

Yea, having a module reader as the first release makes a lot of sense to me.

Just to highlight that YES to a module reader.

Yes, we’re still in the development phase. There were some curve balls once we added iOS into the mix. We’ll announce something when we have a better handle on when/what we will be delivering.

Dear FG team,
is there any specific timeline for the reader app. It would be really great to have a reader app, after buying so many modules in FG.
All the best and many thanks for the great software.

They are looking into it, and the switch to Unity made it MUCH easier from the old architecture.

Very much looking forward to this; I plan on using it with my tabletop campaign as there are a few sourcebooks that I have in FGU but not in hardcover.

Hi! We're coming up on a year where you mentioned the development of FGU on iOS. Whats the status on this? Id reeeeally like to see this on my iPad Air Gen 5 and 6. :) With the M1 chipset I can easily run my vtt game on my ipad. Now we need the software. This is where you guys come in. So whats the status on iOS implementation of FGU?

It's still in development according to the latest information given out in recent live streams. SW generally don't give out specific time frames so that all round disappointment can be avoided. Note also that AFAIK it's only going to be a reader (that is you'll be able to access any modules on your account and read them). It's not something that you could use to actually play in a game.

It will only be a reader???!!! What absolute garbage. Get this product on iPad or go home…. No wonder no one uses FGU, ffs and I paid for this garbage license years ago.

Please be nice.
Making a tablet capable VTT is much more than just having the app run on a different operating system. You have to totally replace the user interface and somehow make exceptions for use of an onscreen keyboard and no mouse. A reader app is the first step. If it was easy to do, it would already be done (an no other VTT with the capabilities of FG has a fully featured tablet ready app either.)

Really?? You think the game would be playable on an iPad, the screen space is so limited. I had a hard enough time playing on a 4K 15" laptop screen I bought a 2nd screen to extend the space.

As an Apple developer (forced) who does a lot with Ipad, I can tell you certainly that porting FGU over to it would be an absolute beast of a task. Honestly, I have a lot of respect for them for even trying to get a reader going.
It could be easier on Android - but not even necessarily. Developing for tiny screens is not the same as developing in Unity, and it comes with many more restrictions that cause it to take far longer with a small team.
I don't know if you've ever tried the "VTT"s (if we want to call them that) that are available on the App Market or Google Play, but I'm fairly sure that it's not the experience you want - and they're leagues behind what FGU does.

Lucky for you it was only a one time fee and not a monthly subscription!

I'm patiently/hopefully waiting for the iPad reader. It is all that would make this the perfect program for me, which might or might not be perfect for someone else. The ability to read up on the adventure/campaign when I'm anywhere, and not have to use/pay for content another time, is keeping me patient. Reading my own notes would also be a great feature, while being able to write notes/content would a killer feature (but probably won't happen). So I wish it would be coming sooner than later. Thanks for such an awesome program.

I think it would be cool if players could look at their character sheet and roll some dice on a mobile app without any of the other features of the full program. I have some players without a laptop who would basically do that with DnD Beyond that would love that capability with FGU. Then they'd still be able to play with us on Fantasy Grounds with other games. We would have to basically jump on Discord and share screen, but they can point where they want their character to go on the shared screen and read handouts and stuff on there - basically they'd still be able to join the adventure with us.
I'm guessing the DM would still have to handle effects and automation unless they can set it up on a computer beforehand. It might be annoying to set those up or apply them on a small screen.

Thinking about this, is there any way to export a character from FGU and import it into some kind of mobile app? Even if players couldn't roll dice from it, just having the ability to look at there sheet from a phone or tablet would be very handy.

Best way to do this is to have them create a character on DnD Beyond. My players do it. I've done it. It's also a great way to make sure the FGU sheet is accurate since DnD Beyond automates the level ups.

FGU characters can be exported as XML, but I'm not aware of anything else that parses the schema beyond... hm, I think there have been a few system-specific attempts to convert character sheets to PDF (e.g. https://fantasygrounds2pdf.vercel.app/ ; don't know if that's up-to-date for current D&D 5E, but that's one ruleset that it targets).

There are multiple ways to be able to export a character from FG for 5E (anyhow) and have the XML converted to a PDF. They could then save that file to their phone or tablet.

Having the character sheet accessible from a tablet / phone to free up screen space would be awesome, especially when playing on a laptop. I don't know how restrictive hasbro's licensing is, but being able to read our purchased source material on a companion app / website would also be great.
I've already sunk a lot of money into the FG ecosystem, but once WOTC releases their inhouse vtt, if a single purchase gets you the books in dndbeyond website/app, and their VTT, it would be hard to justify continuing with FG for DnD.

The DnD VTT is going to start off like a sandbox VTT and not much else, but a dice roller and such, likely not nearly as well developed initially. There will be a subscription, and several micro-transactions to get more content. I am also invested into FG a lot too, but not going to abandon ship because of not having a mobile reader.

As someone who manages to tackle the final endboss "finding a schedule to play", I pop into FG every two to three years, a question:
Seeing the latest update on this was oct. 24, is it still in progress or was it priority dropped down in favor of other stuff?
I do like all the other stuff that was introduced since I last updated FG, but I really would like a module reader as well as those ideas for a character sheet with the ability to roll dice as well.

It's still in progress. Writing code for this stuff isn't trivial so it takes a long time.

My Library - Fantasy Grounds Digital Reader Content (https://www.fantasygrounds.com/library/)
It is under the Store tab and My Library
There is not a separate app for it.
