Hi guys,

I read in steam chat, that its possible to input a local link to harddisc, but its not functioning for me- here a example:

file:///D:/D&D/Spelljammer/1909397-spelljammer-encounters-1-1.pdf

its a functionable link from (firefox) explorer, but its not transformed to a link in FGU, if I put it in chatwindow and press return.

What to do?

Micael

I haven't heard of being able to link to a file on your hard drive from inside FGU. You can do it with url's but I don't know about such local links.

FG only allows web URLs to be linked in chat.

See this extension for creating links to local files: https://www.fantasygrounds.com/forums/showthread.php?57527-MK-Linker

Hi Trenloe,
thanks for that extension link- it creates a local link but that link (see above) is still not functionable- its written there in the forum of the extension:
"FG changed how it handles links a few updates back and links to local files no longer works. So this extension can no longer create those links. They will simply not open. "

So please, Devs, if you change something so fundamentable it would be really fine, if you give us another possibility to use local links- I need them for example to open pdfs with encounter tables or other material not directly available in FGU?
An chance you give us this back?

Thanks

Micael

This is from 2014, which was for FG Classic. It's not applicable to FG Unity. If I remember correctly, the function was removed because it was deemed a security risk.

Ah, sorry - I missed that.

As has been mentioned - allowing running of local files from chat links is deemed a security risk.
