View Full Version : Ability to interact with Shield-specific AC?

Hey folks!

Maybe this falls in the realm of a feature request, not sure...

AFAICT, there is currently no way to interact specifically with the shield bonus to AC for NPCs, short of manually changing their AC, yes? I realize that I can add an effect to just reduce the AC: -2, but that becomes a lot more inaccurate for magic shields, and even more so as I move to the A5E rules.

And for PCs the current answer is to unequip the shield, so I can't trigger this via an effect from an NPC, correct?

A5E complications for this:
- Light shields are +1 AC, Medium +2, Heavy/Tower +2 and possibly plus an expertise die to AC (let's ignore that expertise die for now)
- The weapon property of Parrying Immunity ignores armor bonuses from shields

Thoughts? Suggestions (extensions?)? Feature Request?

In core 5E there is nothing you haven't mentioned. This is because NPCs don't have equipment, they just have various stats that incorporate their equipment (attacks, AC, etc).

I don't have or use A5E though, so you might want to ask in the thread for it though as it might have capabilities; Level Up Advanced 5e (Overview and Bugs) (fantasygrounds.com) (https://www.fantasygrounds.com/forums/showthread.php?72803-Level-Up-Advanced-5e-(Overview-and-Bugs))

Apart from manually changing the AC of the NPC the only method is to use an effect such as you say.

And unequipping (or an effect like AC: -2) is the only way for PCs in A5E too?

Yes.

EDIT: Another way of course is to add to the attackers attack roll with ATK: x
