Hello all,
We are new to FG and using FGU. We're running into, we think, network issues. I've spun up an instance in AWS. Does anyone have experience using AWS for FGU? what instance type did you end up using?
Thanks!

I don't know what AWS is; but the easiest method of hosting a game is via the Cloud option. That should broker any connection type except possibly if you or the player is using a VPN.
Make sure that you have an exception for FG in your anti virus https://fantasygroundsunity.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/FGCP/pages/1303052290/Whitelisting+or+Creating+Exceptions+for+Antivirus+ Applications

Amazon Web Services. We are workign under the impression it is network related. We have people from various parts of the country. theGM's machine is a high end Mac so we don't think it's hardware related. Could be wireless and we hope to check that tonight.

This confuses me. Usually when groups use AWS (or another hosting platform) it's to host the FGU instance in the cloud. If the GM is using a high end Mac, I'm assuming they're running FGU on their Mac - in which case what is AWS being used for? Maybe a bit more information about what you're trying to setup would help the community give relevant feedback?

I can understand why there is confusion.
We ran last week off of the GM's machine and had issues. 30 seconds to move a token.
This week we are going to try AWS to see if it helps and I was trying to gather data ahead of the event.

If you are suffering lag then lag will be more if you interpose something like AWS. Generally lag is caused either by a slow network on the DM side or one or more of the players; or the maps being used are enormous with tons of line of sight and lights. Your DM may want to have a look at fiddling with these settings to see if that helps https://fantasygroundsunity.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/FGCP/pages/1638006786/Reducing+GPU+Usage

would that affect all of us? someone moved a token, it took 22 seconds to move across the board. 30 feet ingame movement.

If it's the GM instance being overloaded, absolutely. I recommend the GM look at the Wiki page Zacchaeus linked - there's been a few reports from Mac users with FG Unity maxing out their GPU/CPU due to running at very high frame rates.
