So I have been trying to automate whatever I can with my monster and characters in order to simplify things. I am not sure how long this problem has existed as I have only started doing this today.
When I create a spell and set up the damage to automatically roll using the * after doing the cast the effects I have setup will go on the targets as they are set up so that is working for me perfectly, but you can also setup the damage roll to automatically roll as well. When I press the * the effects go on as expected and the damage dice roll for the targets as expected. But an extra set is also rolled hitting the caster even though they are not targeted. From what I can tell it rolls the damage as full damage and does not roll a saving throw. I have tested this out on player character sheets, and monsters in the bestiary and this happens with both. If you turn off the automatic rolling of damage and press the damage button to deal the damage it acts normally, dealing the appropriate damage to the targets based on the save throw made and does not damage the casters. So this issue only happens when using the * to automate the damage roll. I have done this with all mods and extensions turned off to ensure that it was not being caused by something I added so this is an issue with FGU itself.

*edit* Ruleset would probably help, Pathfinder 2nd edition. I posted an image of the setting, if the damage is set to all which would allow it to automatically roll the damage after the save is made it causes an extra set of dice to be rolled against the caster. It does not try to roll a save against the caster or anything else, it doesn't hit the caster with any automated effects either, it only causes damage to be rolled against the caster who is not being targeted, and properly rolls damage against all targets, which also have any relevant effects automatically put on the targets as designed.
