View Full Version : Syrinscape no longer working?

When this feature rolled out, it worked fine. I could generate the link and it would launce it in Chrome. Once the player started a long URL would be generated and the player would start. Since last week's update this seems to no longer work. The steps are the same as before, but once you click start on Chrome on the player, another ever comes through. I've tried it with Firefox as well, same result. Seems something has broken between the two?

As the GM, add the links to chat and then click on the GM link in chat - this will open the master instance of Syrinscape for your setup. Play some music from FG - do you see it playing in the Syrinscape master instance? It should show playing, even if you don't hear any sound. This is a good first step to do to determine if it's a sound issue or a FG -> Syrinscape issue.

This is what I’m doing but nothing plays (no visual either) which is why I believe it a FG issue.

OK, then we'll need to take this in steps. Sorry if you already know/have tried all of the following, but we'll need to go through this from the beginning to troubleshoot this...

I'll be referring to this Wiki page: https://fantasygroundsunity.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/FGCP/pages/2078932993/Using+Sound+Links

The first thing to keep in mind is only "Generate" the Web Player Session URL in the Sound: Settings window once. If you generate it again, then it will invalidate all previous links you've used. You only need to "Generate" the Session URL once.

1) Open "Sound: Context" then open "Settings". In the "Sound: Settings" window, under "Data Management" click the Web Import button. You'll see "Attempting to fetch Syrinscape sound list..." in the chat window. Wait until you see "Syrinscape sound list imported and saved."
2) If step #1 has failed, please provide the error you received and post in this thread - don't do any more steps.
3) If step #1 was a success, then click the "Invite" button in the "Sound: Settings" window. This will post 2 links to the FG chat - click the "Syrinscape session controls" link - an "Open URL" window will appear - click "Yes To All".
4) A Syrinscape master session control browser will open - it will have a URL in the form: https://app.syrinscape.com/XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX/#/ - where the X's are your unique session ID and based on the Session URL that you should have generated (and should do this only once).
5) In the Syrinscape master session control browser: select a SoundSet and play a mood - make sure that sound is working here. If sound isn't working, then it's an issue with Syrinscape.
6) Assuming you can play sound successfully in step #5: stop the sound currently playing, then within the FG "Sound: Settings" window, find a mood from the sounds list (use the type filter to help with this) and click on the play button for a mood under the "Actions" in the list. Only click once.
7) Look in the FG "Sound: Context" window - do you see the mood you played in the "Now Playing" section? If so, go to your Syrinscape browser and click on the small "Playing" toggle on the right side (in the "Search" window) - do you see any sounds listed in the Search window after selecting "Playing"?

At this point, assuming all of the above are working, Syrinscape is playing sounds - if you don't hear anything, and Syrinscape is showing that it's playing sounds, then it will be something in your local sound setup. If Syrinscape isn't showing anything playing, then we'll need more information on the steps you carried out above - did you have any issues or receive any errors?

I happened to be up early so gave this a try. The re-import was a success. Despite these exact same steps over the last week other than the import it wouldn't work, but now it is! I suspect I needed to do step 1 again to after a previous update. What is interesting when it wasn't working the long URL app.syrinscape.com/xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx would not appear during the previous attempts and would only show it as /player.
Thanks for the assist!

Great to hear. Glad we got it working! :D

I've seen the same problem and came here looking for a solution.

The issue my players are having is they now have to create a syrinscape account where previously they were able to just follow the in game link to hear sounds at the URL.

Has Syrinscape removed the one-time player for non-account holders?

We are just redirecting to the Syrinscape site; so we don't have any control after we send the link. You're best off reaching out to Syrinscape support to see what they say about that.

Sometimes there is confusion with campaign sound sessions created by the GM. The GM should only create one session per campaign if possible. A GM can share a link with the PCs, but might also actually be accessing a new or different session from Syrinscape, thus adding to the potential confusion. The other potential problem is if the players involved with the campaign are joined to another GMs Syrinscape sound session or a different Syrinscape instance, they will likely need to "leave" the current session, or load the previous session with the proper invite code. Most of these problems revolve around campaign management and a misunderstanding or even to the extent of not knowing which session corresponds to which live Syrinscape session is currently active or useful for a given game Leaving a campaign, or exiting a previous section will help eliminate that potential mess. The GM and the players could be in different active sessions and not even realize it. In other words, the GM has created more than one Syrinscape sound session, but shares a new audio player link with the players.
Or, the players are connected to other campaigns via Syrinscape.

I've just checked this and the players don't need to create a new account or login to Syrinscape. The GM should share the invite with the players in chat, and the players should click on that link. In the browser that opens, they should click the big "Start" button. They should not click on "New Game" in the top right - this will ask for a login. So, I'm guessing that's what the players are doing - clicking on "New Game", ask them not to.

User error is always a possibility and I will check into that, screen share can be an amazing thing. However, there are two factors that made me suspect a link between FGU and Syrinscape.

1 - One of the users is my wife and I was able to run downstairs and watch her process. She was correctly going thru the steps and using the big green "click to start" button.

2 - This started happening after the last big update (last week I think) and it is affecting users who, prior to the update, had no issue at all. I have to assume (dangerous) that all of them did not suddenly forget the process.

All that being said, I will go back to testing and also hit up Syrinscape to see what, if any, changes they may have made.

Maybe provide a few screenshots showing the steps your wife takes to connect?

Also check that the app reference ID in the URL on your side (the GM) and the player is the same - the whole URL won't be the same but there is a long reference ID within the URL that ties the player Syrinscape session to the GM session. Make sure these are the same.

This problem is happening again. When I generate the URL then share the URL, it launches in Chrome to the player page, but the long URL appears briefly then gets shortened to https://app.syrinscape.com/player/ so it is no longer unique to the game and no audio will occur.
This isn't a user error case since these are the same steps that have worked repeatedly in the past.

UPDATE: After 5 URL generations, I was able to get one to stick and actually work.

This is best reported on the Syrinscape forums; since their website application is the one redirecting the links.
