View Full Version : FGU Consistently Freezing when attempting to open Campaign Assets Images

Hi there - Ever since last Saturday (8/19/23) When I go into Assets, then Select Campaign, then Images from the buttons at the top, the program goes into (Not Responding) and the only solution I've found is to go into Task Manager and close the entire program down. What I'm trying to do, is bring up a map that I downloaded into the work area, so I can double check if the tokens work properly.

Has anybody encountered this before? If so, is there a solution to be found?

Thanks

I had the same issue (sort of) - I had a really big map of all of Faerun which was causing this issue when I went to Campaign -> Images. Removing the map solved it for me, but obviously not the greatest approach.

Does this happen in a new campaign with no extensions?
Have you rebooted your computer in between attempts?
How long have you waited?
Have you recently loaded new maps into assets or campaign images? How big/how many/what file sizes? Do any of them contain special characters in the file names?
You should be able to get to the log files, Use Compile Logs and upload here.

Okay, thanks for the quick reply, and when the program comes up I'll remove the image

If it is that one image. Check that the file type is valid for FG. It shouldn't hang, it should just not load the thumbnail, but... You can try resizing it to something smaller and changing file type just to see if it then works.

It's only been in one campaign, the only one I've been running.
I reboot my PC at least once, if not more per day,
I've waited several minutes, at least 15 minutes on one occasion
I just uploaded the new map on Saturday, the name is battlemap___beach_with_cliffs_by_ronindude_dbuityk-fullview
File Size: 1024 x 768

And I think I've attached the Zip File in the Manage Attachments, and it's showing in the Current Attachments area

Sorry for the delay, but I had to figure out how to get some of the information

There is nothing in the Logs that indicate any errors, which means more than likely that it's a problematic graphics file in the campaign images/ subfolder.

Can you click on the folder button on the FG launch screen; navigate to campaign/<campaign name>/images/; turn on Windows Explorer Details View; right click on column headers, select More..., and turn on Dimensions column; then send a screenshot of that folder with all the file details (esp. size and dimensions)? You may have additional subfolders as well to look into.

More than likely, you have too many files in that folder; or a very large image file (or problematic image file) in that folder.

The recommended file sizes for FGU images are less than 2Kx2K dimensions and less than 1MB (for non-map images); and less than 4Kx4K dimensions and less than 2MB (for map images).

The window is due to clicking on the "Store" button in the Assets window - it's going to take you to the FG store, but it needs you to confirm that opening that URL is OK. That's expected.

No is not, then most likely that window came from a delayed click. Issue is FG almost Freezes when I go to the assets campaign window, I have validated that i have nothing crazy in size over there and it started like 2 weeks ago or so, really
bad today

crazy is a matter of expectations. Do you have anything more than 4MB in file size? Do you have more than 250 images in any folder or module? Do you have more than 5000 images total?

I'm sorry, I've made multiple attempts to attach the screen shot to my reply, and I've also attempted to use the Insert Image option, but I get told I don't have permission to access the Attachments page, and I don't get anything when I try to upload the image

I don't know if the system just doesn't like me, or I'm having a brain fart and missing something obvious, because I was able to upload the zip file to an earlier post in the thread

Yes O do have images around 10Mb in size which is nothing crazy imo,no more than 250 images, 20 top, no more than 50 images in total. trust me is not expectations, FGU just freezes if I go to assets/campaign... If I need to work on a image I have to export it Through the images window directly, but as consequence I can't manage my assets apporpately

10mb is 5 times the recommended max size. But, that's probably not the issue. It's more likely you have an image file with a codec that is not supported or the file is corrupted.

Remove half of the files you recently added, if problem is fixed, then add the files back one at a time until you find the image that is causing the problem. Then save the file as a different supported file type and see if that works. If that fixes it, you can upload the image here and see if anyone can figure out if it is a codec, corruption or something else.

If you are using 10MB files, I can almost guarantee that they exceed our recommended graphic size dimensions by a significant amount. (4K x 4K resolution at 2MB file size). Also, my guess is that you also have added a significant number of files at these higher resolutions. The combination of these things will have a huge impact on performance.

If you want to use whatever image set you are trying to add, you will need to resize the images done to recommended sizes (4k x 4k resolution for maps; 2k x 2k resolution for non-maps).
