View Full Version : Items exported through module not grouped

Hi everyone, looking to solve a slightly annoying issue I have running Mongoose 2E Traveller on FGU but is presumably the same for any system. Traveller has updated many of its supplements and I want to use the latest data for items. I've created a new campaign so that I can create a module to export as I build the item lists. The module exports fine and I can see the items grouped correctly on my screen. However, when my players try to view the items they show up as 'uncategorised'. This is annoying since there are many duplicates still running between the old an new versions. Besides, I want players to be easily able to pull all available items together in 1 group.
Does anyone have a solution for this?

Groups are not visible to players, only the DM. They will only be grouped for the players based upon the module they come from. If they are shared from the campaign and not from a module, then they will be uncategorized. At least that is how it works in most systems, MT2 could be different. You might want to ask in that sub-forum.

If you exported the module as a player module then your players will see the items in the groups when they open the module. However if you share items with players then the groups don't go with the item. All items that are not in modules are uncategorised for players.

Thanks. Not sure I understand this. The module that contains the items has been exported as a player module but the players are not seeing items in any groups. They are uncategorised.
I find this odd since when I create the items in the module, I assign them a group. When I export the module, I can see this same group as the GM when I loaded the module for the first time. I've not since reloaded the module - I didn't think there was any need.
The issue still exists though and is annoying as I'd like to allow players to sort items. Here's how it looks to them - the shared items are those from the player module.

Are your players using the groups sort option on top? With unsorted or all, it will show everything that the players have loaded in the campaign displayed. The players have to have the same module loaded, and sort and select with the filter. The example you provided shows all. Is the example from the character client or your GM view?
When you created your module did you drag just links to and from source books, or did you actually make copies of each record type and then catergorize into your own module groups..? Did you build your module in a new campaign or in your actual game session or campaign? This can be problematic for the integrity of the data for your custom made module. You don't want to load your exported and created content module in the same campaign or session.
1.) Create a new campaign.
2.) Only load the content required to create your module.
3.) Create a category for each data type and build your content in said groups, not in All or uncategorized.
4.) Make copies, build content, and then link everything together at the very end.
5.) Unload your reference or rulebooks.
6.) Check your work by opening up links and using the category and group filters. Look for rulebook dependencies, meaning that specific modules or sources books need to be loaded for player to access the data.
7.) Export with the player module option as checked or enabled and export.
8.) Load new exported module in a clean campaign and look over and do not load in the same session that your built your module within.

If you have exported the module as a player module then all the players need do is open that module and everything will be in the groups that you specified. There's no need to share anything that is in a player module (since by default a player module is shared). If you do then the shared items will not be in any group as noted above. SO just to emphasize; items will retain their group if you export a players module and the player opens that module. Items will not be grouped if you share the item no matter what kind of module they are in.
I don't know what you called the module you exported but it doesn't look like from your screenshot that they have the module open (since if they did they would see a duplicate of each of the items you have shared, with one of the items being in the module group and the shared one being uncategorized).

Thanks all. I had thought that I needed to share items because I was initially having issues with players seeing the images that were linked to each item. However, I had a test session with a player last night and it's all as you say above. Most importantly, they can sort using the module name and all the items that should appear do appear. It seems the player who shared the screenshot wasn't following instructions. Players, eh?

Glad you got it sorted out. For future reference, if you want to check what a player sees, open up another instance of FG on the same computer as the GM instance and "Join Campaign" as a player.
