Hi,
First time using the forum and working on map creation in Fantasy Grounds. I was am trying to learn how to use the map maker by following along with Jashua Watmough in the Gencon 2021 - Map creation video (That's not the problem, just a bit of context). I was at a part right after he uses the rectangle brush tool to put down the first floor walls and then uses the erase tool to make an opening for some doors. Here is where my problem is;

- When I go to erase the wall by selecting the layer than the erase tool, it will extend the wall where ever I drag. I will attach images for reference.
- I have tried closing the image, and program just to open to the same problem.

- I am also noticing that when I select a layer and try to use the erase tool on individual objects on those layers it just deletes everything on the layer.
- I can work around this with the edit tool in the paint tab but it does not seem that should be the way the eraser should be working.

I have not tried a reinstall yet. Please let me know if there is any known solution to this. If it is already posted somewhere else please let me know where and sorry for the repeated question. If this is not the correct place to ask this question please let me know where I should be asking. Thanks all.

Thanks for the report. I'll take a look at this.

I have the same issue and replied to pindercarl but I do not see that post. I apologize if this is a redundant post. I never could wrap my head around this type of forum format.

Looks like the video will have what Carl needs to investigate this.

Hello, has anyone figured out what the solution for this would be. I have the same problem. Thanks

This should be addressed in next release currently in the Test channel.

Sorry for the necro, but I've just started playing with painting withing FG, and I've come across this incredibly frustrating behaviour that seems to be the same issue as in the OP of this thread:

If a polygon is drawn with a fill, then you can't delete part of the line - instead the erase tool functions just like the brush. This makes this otherwise incredibly powerful capability to quickly make structures very awkward, as you can't delete a section of the wall to stick in a door (as a different stamp, or better yet a separate tile).

Image 1 shows where the erase tool is used.
Image 2 shows the results - similar behaviour to Subtract, when what I actually want is to erase that part of the wall (the fill would just be defined by the new invisible edge created between the two new end nodes)

Thanks.

Okay, I see the design intent for the behaviour.

You are also deleting the fill (and then the brush goes around the new fill), which totally makes sense for some use cases, but I suspect for the vast majority of use cases, if you have a fill and a brush (especially when using images), the desired behaviour would be what I was trying to do above.

Is there a way to achieve what I was trying to do? To delete just a section of the brush outline of a polygon with a fill? This would drastically speed up and simplify creating battlemaps, as you wouldn't then have to drawn the floors on one layer, then matching walls on another layer (to ensure correct Z-order).

Thanks.

I understand what you are trying to accomplish. In order to fill a shape, that shape to be considered "closed." This is why the behavior is what you are seeing. I'm not sure the best way to achieve what you want. You are correct that draw a "room" with floors and walls as a single shape, you would need to split the stroke and the fill to separate layers to allow erasing. I'll have to think about that one.

Hi Carl,

Thank you for having a think about this :)

I've created a Feature Request for it now. Hopefully it will get some traction to warrant resources for further investigation, as I really think it would simplify the process of being able to rapidly make new maps on the fly - with the already very powerful image brush (wall) and image fill (floor) combo, the capability is so nearly there!
