View Full Version : Anyone else having big latency issues in the latest update or two?

My group has been using FG for D&D and Pathfinder for quite a few years now and generally haven't had any issues but our last two sessions from this past weekend and a couple weeks ago we have had some HUGE latency problems in the app that we haven't before. Rolls taking forever to complete, tokens incredibly sluggishly moving on maps, etc. It isn't just the client users connecting to me either, I myself am also experiencing huge slowdowns suddenly. If it were a network issue connecting to me I would expect just my players would have the problem, but since I see it myself too I'm not so sure. Even if I just open the campaign by myself and nobody else is connected I still see it happening. I've got plenty of RAM (64Gb), and everything else I do on my machine runs smoothly.

Has anyone else had any issues like this in the recent updates with their games suddenly becoming very sluggish? This particular campaign we've had going for a while and have never had any issues like this until now.

Welcome to the FG forums. Sorry you're experiencing issues.

How big is your db.xml file for your campaign?

For some operations (like rolling attacks and damage) there is back-and-forth communication with the player instances, so if there's a slow connection somewhere this can manifest as slowdown for all - including the GM.

What slowdown do you see when no players are connected? Can you provide a couple of scenarios?

Also, please compile your logs after experiencing the issues and post them here. Details on how to compile your logs can be found in the FG Wiki here: https://fantasygroundsunity.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/FGCP/pages/1242136781/How+to+Compile+Logs

The last big client and ruleset update was mid-June; so any standard capability would have been affected at that time.

A couple things to add to what @Trenloe asked:
* Are you running any community extensions? (i.e. anything except for standard FG themes)
* How large are the images in the campaign (number and max size)?
* Can you provide your campaign file zipped up?

db.xml is 756 kb

Regarding player communication across the network, it's been the same couple of us for years all in out same respective locations. Every once in a while we'd have a roll take a moment but in these recent sessions they're taking like 10-15 seconds before they pop, and it's every roll which drastically is slowing things down.

When nobody is connected I still am seeing some slowdown moving things around on maps from the campaign module. Like, placing encounter tokens, moving them around etc etc. I have dynamic lights turned off and just manually unmask what needs to be so it isn't having to continuously update those.

Regarding logs, I'll see if I can grab the log after our next session and get them.

The two sessions we've had since mid June are the ones where we've noticed this being an issue. Extensions wise I have "Theme: FG Dark", "Font - Montserrat", and "MoodLighting"

Image wise I'm not quite sure where to see the total amount/size of the modules images. We're running the Pathfinder 2e Extinction Curse modules right now. In terms of ones in the 'images' folder which is mainly just character portraits of the players that folder is 9.2 MB

For the campaign zip is this just the folder under roaming -> Smiteworks -> FantasyGrounds -> Campaigns -> My Campaign that you need?

Yes, to your last question.
