Importing sound file error: One or more filepaths unable to be processed, or needs to be in the data folder.
ref: SUPPORT-22522
I followed the following document : https://fantasygroundsunity.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/FGCP/pages/2078932993/Using+Sound+Links#Prerequisites
1) Import Audio - Local
2) do the "Copy as path" option on one file within my sound folder 58038, submit for import 58040
3) get the following error : error: One or more filepaths unable to be processed, or needs to be in the data folder. 58041
Here is what I have tried:
1) boot in safe mode with network, did not work
2) tried multiple different mp3 files separately, did not work
3) tried on another pc with FG installed, worked
4) run FG without extensions, did not work
5) tried to remove the underscores from the filename, did not work 58043
6) reinstall fresh FG (vanilla) with a scratch appdata rebuilt by the reinstall, did not work
Logs are attached, but Joseph explained that nothing was found in the logs. 58044
note: my appdata folder is on my D: drive and I also tried to move it to the C: drive but then I tried step6 above, did not work.
Please help

When you copy the files, you have to hold down the shift key or opt key to bring up "copy as path" when you right click, and make sure it is copied from the Fantasy Grounds sound sub-directory, not from your original storage location.
It's easy to forget and get confused where you are at and what folders are where..Wherever your Fantasy Grounds data folder is, that's where you will need to create your sounds director, and copy the path from there. There's no way around this due to file security.
Make sure your clipboard is not holding the wrong directory paths or don't forget to copy from the Fantasy Grounds sound folder as the last step before Importing.
It's likely a very simple copy and paste issue because I did this same thing without noticing that I was copying the file names list paths from the original sound storage location path, and not from the newer FG sounds folder...!

That is what I did. if you look at image.png and image3.png the path is correct. I used the "copy as path" and did the same on another computer (which worked). the sounds folder is also in the correct location (also in my attachments)

Double (triple?) check which app data path FG is using. On the FG startup screen, click the Settings button and then go to the "Advanced" tab - what is the Data Directory?

Both of the directories are two different drive letters. Did you change the default path of Fantasy Grounds Unity when you installed it? I only ask because this might also be one of the challenges you are facing.

As mentionned in my first post (step 6) was a refesh install, vanilla FG with no extensions, using the c: for both App Directory and Data Directory with the same result.

If you wouldn't mind a screen share session, I am willing to sit across from you to help troubleshoot this.

I managed to recreate this error, but only if I was on the TEST channel.
If you are, then you need to move your sounds to
[ Fantasy Grounds/channels/Test/sounds ]
And then try importing from that location. The TEST channel can't pull from the LIVE channel for security reasons.
I'll make sure the wiki is updated with this information in the future.

I've on the live build running windows 10.

Not sure if this is the exact case; but the sounds need to be local to the FG data directory that you are currently running in.
(i.e. must use root FG data directory for Live channel; must use <FGData>\channels\Test for Test channel)

I have the exact same problem, cannot import any files with the "ERROR: One or more filepaths unable to be processed, or needs to be in the data folder."
I do not have a default app folder installation, but that has never been an issue with anything else in Fantasy Grounds. I've tried running the program as administrator and that didn't make any difference. This is the live version, even after multiple FG updates it still can't import. The file path is fine, I've tried renaming an audio file just in case and then I thought I had finally discovered a potential problem, I unblocked the file, but no, that still did not fix the issue.

Importing sound file error: One or more filepaths unable to be processed
So I sat down with Laerun (to confirm that I was not doing something off the wall strange) and then tried the following:
1) disabled AV
2) uninstalled AV
3) enabled port 8080 through my firewall
4) changed the default player from VLC to Media player.
5) checked the access rights on the appdata folder. gave access "everyone" full (for testing)
6) checked the access rights on the app exe folder. gave access "everyone" full (for testing)
7) checked the access rights on the C:\Users\xx\AppData\Local\Temp folder. gave access "everyone" full (for testing)
with no luck.
I did do a procmon on both my computers (one of my computers imports fine and the other one doesn't).
output of the non working computer:
"Time of Day","Process Name","PID","Operation","Path","Result","Detail"
"7:18:34.9897533 PM","FantasyGrounds.exe","3668","ReadFile","C:\Users\xx\AppData\Roaming\Smiteworks\Fantasy Grounds\rulesets\5E.pak","SUCCESS","Offset: 1,079,304, Length: 4,096"

We can see that the fantasy ground exe doesn't even try to write the csv file containing the filename of the MP3 i'm trying to add.
we can see that the csv file is not written but the chatlog.html is (which is the chat error seen)
output of the working computer:
"Time of Day","Process Name","PID","Operation","Path","Result","Detail"

In this case the sounds_files.csv was written and it contains the MP3 filename added.
Any other ideas would be welcome.

I noticed the non-working is trying to write or work from campaigns, which is not right.

The first computer (non-working) is writing the error message to the chatlog, which is what it is supposed to do if it was supposed to be erroring out.
And then if it works normally, it should be recording the sound data in sounds_file.csv. Which is what is happening on the second (working) computer.
@rockmaster007 You have given a lot of good information and I'm still looking this error over.
The only time I could reproduce this was with the TEST channel trying to access the LIVE channel, but you're not in TEST so I am looking elsewhere right now.
I do have something for you to try and a question for you:
- Are you using symbolic links for the folder? It may be having an access issue trying to grab the file through the symbolic link (aka - symlink or soft link).
--From everything you described, I don't think you are. But I need to check to cross it off my list.
- Does it still throw this error if you manually type out the filepath data that Copy-path would normally create for you?
--I would do copypath, and then paste that into Notepad++ (or whatever text editor you use)
--Then manually type that into the import field, with the quotes and everything it is expecting, and try that.

No extensions enabled.
My non-default file path is very simple but it does have spaces in it. C:\ProgramData\Fantasy Grounds Unity\sounds
I shortened the name of the file to something like [blam.mp3], even tried using a very small audio file (4KB) in case there was an import limit.
Copy path fails with or without quotes. Typing the path with or without quotes also fails. Importing from CSV also fails.

Yeah , that is because the chatlog.html is stored in the campaign folder (called test) to output the text to the chat. Which is normal.

Tarkonian, you may be onto something. When I try to type the path manually, it does stop accepting my characters @ R for roaming.. "D:\Users\steph\AppData\Roaming\SmiteWorks\Fantasy Grounds\sounds\final.mp3" also delete or backspace causes unexpected issues with delection.
I will try to shorten the path to see and test when I get a chance..

I could not wait, so I tried setting my appdata folder to d:\fg, import the mp3 again by entering it manually "d:\fg\sounds\final.mp3" without luck.

wtf (sorry i had to say that). I just put back the original appdata folder to D:\Users\steph\AppData\Roaming\SmiteWorks\Fantasy Grounds with the MP3 file in the sounds folder and it imported!!! now really confused. and just imported a second file successfully. Not sure what has changed. I had tried different folders without any luck, now back to the original one on D: and it works every shot.

That fixed it for me too. Changed the data folder, changed it back, updated, import was successful.

I should mention that if you have spaces, like the "Fantasy Grounds" in D:\Users\[user profile]\AppData\Roaming\SmiteWorks\Fantasy Grounds, it won't bother our import. We encode/decode for spaces.
I'm glad to hear it works. I'll keep looking into why it just started working. It may be something with setting the Fantasy Grounds appdata folder manually (essentially a turn it off/on again approach).
But I'm not sure. It's hard to test this when I can't replicate it on my machines. You could have had a bad filepath cached as your appdata path, so when you changed to "d:\fg\sounds...." and then changed back, you reset it.
Like I said, I'll keep looking. And hopefully have a better answer in the future.
For now, if anyone else is having this issue (@dmssanctum), try changing your appdata folder to something else. Restarting Fantasy Grounds. Then changing the appdata back to the original path.

Don't know what's goign on here... but I noticed something looked wrong, there was a space in the "Fantasy" (aka "Fan tasy") part of your path, but when I quote your message. It's not there:

But, when I go look at the message itself, it shows a space.

Maybe just something with the forums itself. But maybe some hidden character was in your path name? Not sure how that could happen though. Baffled.
EDIT: actually, in edit/reply mode on the forums, the ext has no space, but when I post it does... I swear I'm not going crazy, see:

this may be a good to look at? manually entering the text is erratic and even worst when delete or backspace is used. maybe the "copy as path" and paste is not entering the value correctly.
