Hi,
Today, my players were levelling up and one was playing a fighter and wanted to take the Rune Knight subclass and a fighting style.
They wanted a handy note to record their choices. With out being cluttered up with all the other options they did not select.
This turned out to be very difficult.
Some things I could open for editing but nothing with the relevent information. Some entries have a print to chat option which could form the basis for editing but it is a bit much and some have a copy record but I am unsure what that does. It seems to do nothing.
Is this supposed to be impossible?
I ended up copying and pasting the relevant information from D&DBeyond into the character sheet.

You can make a new entry on the ability tab, click on the link for the ability, and enter any information that you want in the text section of the ability.

If you want to build out a whole class and/or class specialization, then you would set up the records in the Character->Classes or Character->Classes->Specializations lists in the sidebar.

I may not be fully understanding the issue. When you select an archetype (either via drag and drop or in the character wizard) that archetype gets added to the class and level part of the character sheet and any abilities that you get are added to the abilities tab of the character sheet. For things like fighting style there's no separate ability for each fighting style but you can edit the entry on the abilities tab by entering the chosen style in brackets after it (so in other words change 'Fighting Style' to Fighting Style (Archery) - or whatever). See vide three here for more on Fighting Styles https://www.fantasygrounds.com/forums/showthread.php?55797-How-do-I-in-Unity

If this isn't the issue you are having can you provide more precise details?

The player wanted the description that only covered the text that applied to their character. So, for a fighting style they wanted only the paragraphs that described that style. For manoeuvres only the specific manoeuvres.
So, if one takes the Fighting style "Superior Technique" from Tahsa's (I think) then he want the text starting at "You learn one maneuver of your choice......short or long rest."
On an extra created item entry in the Abilities Tab. We know how to create the blank item entry.

In your image you can see the lock icon at the top right of the entry is black - which means that you can unlock that and then edit the text to suit your needs. So you could if you wanted to create a new ability in the abilities tab and then copy/paste the bits you want from the general manoeuvres ability. You could then delete the general one - although I'd keep it since at later levels you can access more manoeuvres.

To be honest the ability description is probably less important that the actions tab - where the player will spend most of their time and is also where you'll be setting up the effects for the manoeuvres. For this I generally drag in the manoeuvres into the action tab to create the power group and then add in the effects only for those manoeuvres selected. See the Complete fighters guide linked below and also video eight in the list linked below.

Sorry, the image is the result I wanted. But the source of the text was the reference document or rather the equivalent of the reference document on D&DBeyond (because I could not copy the relevant text from the reference manual). I player just wanted a note giving him his specific chosen fighting style and Rune Knight runes with out having to pick the information out from a larger body of text each time he wanted to reference it.
This does not seem unreasonable, does it?
I know about the actions tab and do as you do to create useful power groups but that is not relevant to the discussion.
To be honest one should be able to highlight and copy text from a window without having to open the edit lock.

This leads me to to another question.
If I open the reference manual for the Players Handbook and look at fighter: In the reference reading window the fighter page appears with no lock icon and a copy record icon instead. What does that do?
If I click on the link to the fighter, I get the same page but now in it's own window.
However, if I go to the classes entry in the Modules window listing the contents of the PHB I get the old record of the fighter; I get the fighter page but with the edit link not black and unopenable (it cannot be edited) but there is another button that outputs the entire record to the chat window.
Now I cannot highlight any paragraphs in the chat window either, but I can copy the entire entry to the clipboard and paste that to a text editor.
So, I can accomplish what I want by jumping through a lot of hoops, but it would be easier to be able to highlight text and just copy it.

When you add something to the character sheet you get a copy of the item. So, for example, in the image below I created a level three fighter and chose the Battlemaster Archetype which put a link to Combat Superiority in the abilities tab of the character. When that link is clicked it opens the trait and by unlocking it you can edit it including copying the text. A similar thing happens if you open the fighting style ability from the abilities on the character sheet.

You can now copy pages in the reference manual. To do so open the PHB reference from the Library menu and find the page you want. Then click on the copy record content button on the top right of the page. Now click on Modules and click on builder at the bottom; create a new chapter, subchapter and page and then click on the paste record content button on the page you just created. You can then copy text from that page., or edit it etc. You can do a similar thing with the class itself. Make a copy of the class by opening the class list and click and hold on the link against the class you want to copy and drag/drop it back into the list. This will give you an editable copy of the class.

It is, however, much easier to just copy/paste text from one of the abilities that are in the character sheet already or just edit the existing ability to remove anything you don't want.

Many users requested a way to add the text of abilities, spells etc to the chat so that other players in the group could see the wording (previously players could not put such things into chat). So in the last update a button was added which allowed a number of different records to be output to chat so everyone connected could see the wording.

@Zacchaeus, thanks. I think that one of the issues I had was that for what ever reason during the game. The panels for the listed class abilities in the players Ability tab were opening in an area of the screen that I could not see them. I was playing around with the system before posting and noticed that only a corner of the window was visible within the application.
