hello, friends!
i'm having a really annoying problem: i download FGU installer, do everything right but FG was installed instead. i downloaded the exe from here and from steam, same result.
someone know what's the reason why this is happening?
thanks!

Some questions to help figure out what might be the issue in your situation:
* What operating system and operating system version are you running?
* What error messages are appearing if any when you try to run it?
* Have you checked that your antivirus or security software has not quarantined the software?

if you are running from a desktop icon you may be launching FG that was installed previously.
Check in the Start Menu and see if there is a Smiteworks folder containing the FGU shortcut.

i uninstalled FG and try to install FGU again, that's what i meant.
i did it again to take a print from the installer and it is for FG. looks like i'm downloading the fg installer with the wrong name.

go to your windows explorer and go into c:\program files
do you see SmiteWorks and under that Fantasy Grounds?
if so you have FGU installed
go into that folder and make a shortcut to Fantasy Grounds.exe and launch it

Ok run the FGUpdaterEngine.exe and see if it will finish off the install for you.

Run the executable (the file that ends in .exe and has the FG logo) and not the text file (which ends in .txt). You may want to turn on Show File Extensions in your explorer View options.

the exe in the program files folder, right? i run it several times, because i'm playing on weekends, and doing this changes nothing, don't install FGU.

See that Log button? Click that and upload the log file here. It's acting like anti-virus is blocking it, but the log file will help us identify that.

I suspect as LE says that something is preventing FGU from installing properly or a file has been corrupted somewhere along the line. Try first of all deleting the installation folder entirely and download the installer again and then try to install again. If FGU still doesn't install then I'd suspect your anti virus is inhibiting the installation. See the link below for how to whitelist programs. Make sure that you whitelist the entire installation folder. Once you have done that run the updater direct from the installation folder again to see if it will now install FGU. (also accept the default locations for the install if you didn't originally).

The log file shows that FGU is up to date. So I wonder if it is just installed to a different location than you expect.
Two ways I can think of to try and find it;
1) search your entire computer for "FantasyGrounds.exe" See if it finds more than one.
2) or, open your Registry Editor (don't modify anything here, just look!) Browse to 'Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\SmiteWorks\F antasy Grounds' Find what is listed for the Name "AppDir" In a regular explorer window go to that directory and run FantasyGrounds.exe

It looks like you have the app and data directory the same - this can cause issues. I recommend you run the updater, click the "Settings" button and go to the "Advanced" tab - make sure that the App directory is not the same as the data directory. The default for the App directory is C:\Program Files\SmiteWorks\Fantasy Grounds and that is the recommended directory to use - I'd recommend using that, saving the settings and then running an update.

That looks good. Is there a FantasyGrounds.exe in the App Directory? If not then you need to check if your Antivirus is quarantining it.

there is and i checked the antivirus, FG.exe it's not in quarantine.

If there is a FantasyGrounds.exe in the directory then it has installed. If it isn't running then it's likely that the shortcut isn't pointing at the correct place. Can you open FG from the FantasyGrounds.exe directly from the install folder?

i already did that and opened FG, not FGU. i don't have any idea why this happened, but i'm thinking about formatting my computer, maybe this fix whatever is causing the issue.

It sounds like you are looking in the wrong folder and/or your shortcuts are pointing to the wrong folder perhaps? Or maybe you installed one version over the top of another version?
FGU installs by default to:
Application = C:\Program Files\SmiteWorks\Fantasy Grounds\
Data = C:\Users\[User]\AppData\Roaming\SmiteWorks\Fantasy Grounds\
FGC installs by default to:
Application = C:\Program Files (x86)\Fantasy Grounds\
Data = C:\Users\[User]\AppData\Roaming\Fantasy Grounds\
You should never use the same folders for FGC and FGU.
In general, I would uninstall both, make sure the program file folders are gone, make sure the shortcuts are gone, then only install FGU.
