I have run two instances of FG on the same computer for years, usually for a map displayed on a screen or just to NPC a character. Today I tried to run the second instance and it displayed a "License Key Conflict" error. Is there any way to resolve the error or am I just screwed? I have the Ultimate edition so worst case I guess I could join from a different computer but that seems like extra work.

This sometimes happens. Make sure that you come out of FG completely and restart and it should resolve itself.

If the GM session was open for more than a certain number of hours its license check may have expired. I dont know how many hours but there is something like that going on.

I am having the same issue, only in my case I am trying to have my wife and daughter on at the same time but on two different computers. The computer my daughter has used to be the one my wife played on my table, but she has a new computer and plays on that one. My daughter has a fresh install of FGU Demo and her own account. I deleted all the old files I could find and uninstalled FGU and reinstalled FGU Demo (My wife has the Ultimate Edition). This makes it difficult to have them both playing at the same time since only one or the other can be logged in.

On the FG startup screen click the Setting button. On the first tab (Basic), delete the license key and click the Save button. Then click the Update button. Once the update has finished, click the Launch Fantasy Grounds button and check that the version in the top right of the screen has FREE in the name.

Pursuant to post #2: Quitting both instances of Fantasy Grounds didn't solve my license conflict. However, when I rebooted my computer, I was able to open a second instance.
Or that could be a coincidence. It just worked without a reboot.

95% confident this is how it works...
Coincidence. When FG doesn't shut down properly it can't send the server a termination notice. So the FG server holds onto that license for a short amount of time to indicate the license is in use. When you try again quickly the FG server still thinks someone else has that license in use and therefore gives you a conflict. But, after a minute or three of no contact with the server, the license times out and the server releases it and you can launch again.
TLDR, just give it a couple minutes.

Thanks. I'll be patient, and see if that solves the problem.

I have been using multiple instances of FG for going on a decade and never had this issue before today. I just plunked down a ton of money today to run a new game, with a second instance being streamed to my 90" 4k TV. and now im stuck for an hour trying to get this stupid 2nd instance to work. So clearly being patient isn't helping. Something has changed.

Are you joining your own game via the same computer or are you using a second machine? I assume you have tried all of the advice above (Close out FG completely; reboot computer; if on two computers make sure there's no license in the second machine). If none of that works might be worth compiling your logs and posting here so we can take a closer look.

Good call, bud. Reboot fixed it.
Its obviously not coincidence.
