I don't know anything about Linux but according to this only Ubuntu is supported. I don't know what that means nor what Ventura means but could this be the issue? https://www.fantasygrounds.com/forums/showthread.php?61261-Linux-Testing

Considering Mac OS Ventura released in October 2022, and we haven't heard other reports of the installer not working; I'm thinking this is more an issue specific to this specific Mac configuration.
Are there any errors in the OS system logs right after it fails?

Ventura 13.3.1 only came out mid month.

I had just looked up Ventura release data. I don't know on exact release dates for Mac OS (especially sub-versions); since I have to keep my Mac running on the oldest build we want to support to make sure it works.
It still has been a couple weeks; and I would have expected to hear more issues if it's a general issue with that OS release.

It might be a permissions problem. Here is what I was told:
it asked to access files in my download folder, i said no and the installation promptly failed.
Apparently, rebooting, etc. does not solve the problem.

It needs to access the file sin the downloads file to run the downloader in the downloads file.

Open System Settings > Privacy and Security > Files and Folders and enable FG.
Or (perhaps better) System Settings > Privacy and Security > Full Disk Access and add and enable FG.
