View Full Version : Map Making and turning on the Line of Sight Oddity

I'm using assets from various map packs and am getting an odd result when I switch on either Line of Sight or Lighting.

In the first picture, this is how I wanted to things to look. The slightly visible field furrows are the Grass_Field_Town_City asset from the "FG Town and Cityscapes Map Pack" over the top of some green-tinted Dirt_1.png from the Jungle Map Pack 2. They are both on the Low Ground Cover Layer.

However, when I turned on either the Line of Sight or the Lighting functions, the furrows disappear and I get darker circles around the Dirt_1.png assets.

Both assets are on the same layer (Low Ground Cover). The Dirt_1.png was stamped on while the Grass_Field_Town_City asset was painted with the line tool. Both were tinted to change the color. Both had their A function turned down to blend them into the background a bit better.

Anyone have any idea what I am doing wrong or what is causing this?

I don't have an answer for you but it may be the order of layers. I imagine that the grass field should be the first layer and the dirt layer should be next. I can't tell from your list what the layer order is (you also have some layers invisible). Also there's only one layer with Line of sight and lighting on one thing rather than on the base layer (don't know if that makes a difference but I think it does).

Could you post a zipped up copy of your campaign folder?

Thanks,

Sure can. Thanks for having a look at it! I deleted the rest of the extraneous images in the images folder to get it down to size. If that breaks something else, let me know and I'll find another way to get it to you.

It's the Orchard image, Fallout 2d20 ruleset.

Thanks for the reply Zacchaeus.
-Both assets are on the Low Ground Cover layer. Having played with it a bit more, I am starting to think the Dirt_1.png asset is the one causing the change.
-The layer order is from bottom to top with dirt being the background layer and Trees being on top of everything else.
-One of the invisible layers (Shapes) was a template for planning out stuff. I have since deleted it but the oddity persists. The second invisible layer is for a secret door. The two secret layers (Secret Normal and Secret Revealed) are just a refrigerator that can move to expose a trap door.
-The Line of Sight layer was created using the "Duplicate Paint Layer as Walls function" (found in the Line of Sight tab) on the walls layer. I put the lights on that layer as well. Turning it on and off seems to have no impact on the oddity.

Just to close out the thread, we played again last Wednesday and the circles were gone. Thanks very much!
