View Full Version : FGU: Players can see all the map, disregarding LoS

Hi All,

I've just introduced my players to FGU and the LoS functions. We've had a few sessions and I've just discovered, on my latest map, that the players only see their tokens LoS when they select their token, if they deselect they see the whole map, in the same manner as it works for the GM. I assumed they would only see what their character would see and cant figure out why this is the case. They're on the tracker and on the map. Anyone have any ideas?

Any extensions?
Does the map have LOS on it?
Is LOS turned on for the map?
Is lighting turned on?
Can you zip up the campaign and share?

Hi, I'm running no extensions, have created all LoS polygons (on two different maps), LoS is on and lighting is on. It all seems to work fine, its just the players get the same options I do as a GM, as in they can choose to deselect their token and when they do they see the whole map. Could it because i wasn't running through teh turn order? I was playing it out of combat.

I'm not sure about your last point, as in how to do it.

All tokens are added to the map from the CT?

Re: last point - he is asking you to share your campaign here so we can see the map and hopefully work out the issue

Make a copy of your campaign folder (the one with the campaign name on it) and then right click on the copy and select set to compressed file. Here when you reply to the thread click on Go advanced and then on add image and add the zipped campaign folder to the post.

Before you do that can you show us a screen shot of the image with the map unlocked so we can see the open right hand panel.

Apologies for the delay in this, I got a notification for the first messages and then it just stopped so I assumed no one had replied.
I've tried zipping the campaign but its far too large, which would be teh folders required so that i can clear the rest out and get it under the 9mb?

Should be the image of the map attached to this though.

Can you post a picture of the window with the Line-of-Sight section selected in the image control panel? That should show the occluders defined for the map in the display.

For posting the campaign, you can make a copy of the campaign folder, then edit the copy to remove all the other images before zipping up.

If you have OneDrive or DropBox you can upload there and share a link.

Thanks all, should be the campaign zipped and attached and a screenshot of an example, here the selected character can see the lunar demon even though he's on one side of the terrain and the demon is on the other. I've double checked and the terrain is def "closed".

I kind of have two issues it seems, the first is that the players can "choose" to see their line of sight by double clicking on and off their character. I'm assuming there's some setting I've got wrong here that is allowing this as I assumed they would only ever see what their personally owned character would see.
The second is that the players just seem to be able to see my tokens through the terrain anyway, the only way around this I have is to just keep making things invisible as and when they slip out of LoS. Not ideal

Thanks for including the campaign - this really helps.

I think this issue is due to a misunderstanding of the "terrain" LoS - refer to the "Terrain Tips" here: https://fantasygroundsunity.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/FGCP/pages/996640584/Map+Line+of+Sight+Style+Guide#Add-Terrain

As everything is within on terrain "entity", everyone within that terrain will see everyone else (as well as see out) and anyone outside will see in (unless there's another terrain entity in the way).

Also, if a player clicks on a token they control, they'll just see what that token sees, if they click off their token they'll see what all PCs they control can see or (if party vision is on) what all other PC tokens can see.

So, in the setup you have in the campaign, it's working correctly. From your screenshot the selected token on the right (Blue Ron'dell) they can see into the first terrain LoS entity - but they won't be able to see the other side of it (it appears that the NPC tokens on the other side are greyed out).

Thanks Trenloe. I'm happy that I understand the terrain LoS, the only issue on that example I gave was Blue being able to see the NPCs on the far side of the shipwreck. I'm happy that all the other PCs can see everything as they're inside looking out. I think party vision being off solves one of my problems, the players being able to switch between what they see and what they all see (please correct me if that's wrong). The bit i don't understand is how Blue still see's NPCs even when they move out of line of sight. I can see they grey out, but if i move them he still sees the greyed out token moving. I'd have thought he would've just seen the last known position of the token?

Thanks Zacc, I'll have a look through your vids now!

We'd need to see a screenshot from the player side - as the GM sees the hidden tokens as greyed out, they don't completely hide for the GM.

In testing this worked correctly for me. See the screenshot beflow - the top image is the GM view and the bottom is the player view - I started another instance of FG and joined as a player to verify exactly what the player sees.
