Masterindex filter

Using aCustomFilters and sField I can define a filter for a masterindex. Is it possible to define one filter for 2 fields?
I have a record type that contains two stat fields and I would like to have a unique filter to select records that have a certain
stat no matter if it's in the first or second field.

While filters can call a custom function to interpret the data in a field, they are tied to a single data field for filtering and automatic index updating.
