Prone status question

Hi all,
when I attack a prone target with a reach weapon from 10 ft the system roll dices with advantage.
The PHB on page 292 for prone status tells
"An attack roll against the creature has advantage if the attacker is within 5 feet of the creature. Otherwise, the attack roll has disadvantage."

The automation for applying Advantage to prone targets does not look at the range, only that it's a melee attack. When the original system was written, range could not be determined, so it would have to be something that is added.
