View Full Version : Defeated Markers

Are there any plans to implement map markers for defeated NPCs in Pathfinder 2? Are there any existing extensions that I've missed which would add this functionality to the Pathfinder 2 ruleset?
I know it seems like a trivial detail, but I've found that my players like having bloodstains/heaps/goop-puddles as breadcrumbs to follow back into dungeons after taking a break.

There is an extension for CoreRPG. Wound Overlay? I'm not at home. But that sounds right. It puts blood spatters, and finally skulls when they die.
Ohhh. I hadn't seen there was a new implantation for PF2. Cool.

How do I turn on the Death Markers?
I see where to choose which colour, etc. but doing damage and killing a test Mitflit doesn't show anything.
[edit] And I have chosen a green blood for Fey.

They're on by default. They only appear when a defeated creature is removed from the Combat Tracker.

I was trying to figure out when that happened and whether or not it was from some extension I forgot I had implemented. I ran my new group of old friends through their first fantasy grounds experience last night and everyone loved it.

Cool feature. I hadn't realized that you could change the default puddle based on the creature type. Is there any chance the death marker settings get updated at some point to use PF2 creature types? I don't think outsider keys off anything right now, and I cannot figure out how I could change the death marker for an elemental, for example. It would also be nice to be able to turn off the death markers for specific creature types.

Turning off the markers would have to be a feature request for the base CoreRPG ruleset functionality. If you import a blank image into FG, you could setup a custom marker set with a blank image and assign that to a creature type.
I'm happy to make some changes to the creature types listed, within reason.

You can use the attached file - put it in your <FG app data>\images folder, then it will be available in the "Data" image asset folder. You can create a new Marker set and just add this one image to it - then assign that marker set to creature types that you don't want any markers to appear for.

I'm going to change the creature type list in a future release to:
"aberration",
"animal",
"beast",
"celestial",
"construct",
"dragon",
"elemental",
"fey",
"fiend",
"fungus",
"humanoid",
"monitor",
"ooze",
"plant",
"undead"
This is based off the types from the "Creatures by Type" list at the back of Bestiary 1 and 2 - where more than just a couple of creatures were part of the creature type and the type was pretty unique; for example, I didn't add "giant" because giants also have the "humanoid" trait.

If you turn off the default type (Ie set to empty); then any creatures without a specific death marker will not leave any mark. To turn “off” death markers, just set them all to empty option.

Yeah, I thought of that, but combined with the fact that the available creature types did not really correspond to PF2 creatures, it didn't feel like an ideal solution.
Thanks Trenloe, for the blank image and planned creature type update.

Is there a quick way to "clean up" a map and remove all death markers from it?
My players like to take cleared dungeons and turn them into hideouts. XD

When you click the Tint button to alter the color on the Death Markers, everything seems to work except the alpha value wouldn't save. I was trying to make the blood splats a bit transparent as to not obstruct the scenery. Is this not possible? Thanks.

That's not supported currently; only direct color tinting.

I found the limiter for the use of the alpha setting on the death markers, and enabled alpha values for blood marker sets in the code updates today.

The default marker sets include "Skull" and "Tombstone" sets. However, the images for these sets appear to be missing, and if you attempt to delete a creature who has one of these sets assigned it generates an error message and prevents you from removing the creature from combat tracker.

You may have had the initial setup of your default marker sets during a short period right after the initial update where there was an issue. Since the markers are stored globally per ruleset, they will persist across campaigns from the same ruleset. If you delete all the default marker sets and restart the campaign, then the default marker sets will be rebuilt with the correct versions.

Excuse me, Where is the Button now ??? Is the only way to remove the Deathmarker to delete the Layer ??
I Liked the Quick delete button

The button on the image tool bar called "Clear Death Markers" will delete the Death Markers layer, if any.
Previous implementations in the community extensions section would add extra tokens to the map; and give you a button to clean them all up at once. It's basically the same implementation.
