A few pertinent points

I am the GM using FGU ultimate license

We are using the Traveller ruleset

Both the player and the GM are using the latest update

I can whisper to every other player

The players can whisper to each other and to GM

The player in question can send me a whisper

however I cannot whisper to the player

I've tried right clicking on their portrait to bring up the radial menu, I've also tried typing in the command line on the chat. I cannot recall what the error msg says

Obviously its not game breaking, just really curious

I do not have any screen shots, but perhaps I should from our next session...

anyway tia for anyone with an idea about this situation

Two things:
1) What is the exact name of the PC - does it have any different characters in the name?
2) We need to know exactly what the error message says.

thanks
the PC was using quotation marks in their name at first for example
Joe "smartypants" Jones
I thought that might be it so it was removed and changed to
Joe smartypants Jones
so that now the name is a standard alpha numeric char set

didn't affect things

I will endeavor to repeat the error in our next session

I would guess it's the spaces in the name.

Typical whisper command is: /w <charactername><space><message>

I would guess that it's hitting the first space (after Joe) and thinking the rest is the message, but since no PC is called just Joe, it's trying to send the message to a non-existent PC.

Do any of the other players have spaces in their names?

Spaces should work fine, also quotes should work (based off some testing I did). I think we need to know the error message being received to address this issue further.

Hello and thanks for the suggestion

All players have a space in their name

As Trenloe suggests I will report back when I have the error message

the msg says

"whisper recipient not found"

I used a right click radial whisper

and typed out the whisper command as well

If that player creates a new Character can you whisper to that one?
If so... maybe just recreate the character?

A couple of things to check:

1) Is there a space at the beginning or end of the character name?

2) Try the chat /w command and start typing the character name, then press TAB - does it auto complete the PC name? If so, then type a brief message and press enter - does the whisper go through?

Thanks to both of you

We will do all the following and report back with the results

No space at the beginning or ending of the character name

update

Player logged in and made a new toon

whisper works as it should

the only thing I can think of that is/was unusual is that at the time the toon was created we were using a different version of FGU. I had upgraded and the player hadn't. Not sure if that is the culprit but I thought I would mention it.

thanks again for the comments and suggestions
